This Welsh National Park Is An Extreme Sports Lover's Dream

Snowdonia, in North Wales, is one of finest National Parks in the country. The perfect holiday destination for extreme sports lovers, it offers some really great challenges for adrenaline junkies.

For those that enjoy biking, be it road or mountain, there are virtually endless great trails and quiet roads, all with breathtaking scenery. Known for some of the best mountain biking trails in the UK, Snowdonia plays host to Snowdonia’s Epic MTB Challenge with its 62 miles (100 kms) of amazing mountain biking. Anybody is eligible to enter, so if you like a bit of competition, this could be the perfect holiday destination. For road biking enthusiasts, the area has been included in the Tour of Britain, and provides miles of deserted roads perfect to explore and push yourself to the limit through mountain passes and challenging inclines.

Mountaineering and rock climbing are, of course, two of the key extreme activities within The Snowdonia National Park, and there are many centres throughout the region offering equipment hire and trained instructors to ensure that everybody keeps safe. Climbing Mount Snowdon via one of the six routes to the peak is definitely a bucket list item for any sports-loving visitor. Rock climbing opportunities amongst breathtaking scenery are everywhere: the crags and cliffs of Snowdonia have always been a haven for climbers.

For extreme water sports lovers, how about white-water rafting or gorge walking? An adrenaline packed twosome, these offer some great views from some rather unusual angles. Coasteering is also popular along the isle of Anglesey and the Gwynedd coast. Scrambling over rocks, through the wild sea, and around the rugged coastline is an unmissable part of the Snowdonia adventure.

For those who enjoy extreme sports with an engine, car rallying is a fun choice. The Wales Rally GB travels through the forests and mountain paths of Snowdonia annually, proving an exhilarating experience which is great to watch. There are several centres which offer rallying days, allowing visitors to take to the hills for a few hours extreme driving.

Finally, Snowdonia is often used as a base for charity challenges – these can focus on hiking, biking and many other extreme sports, and offer visitors the opportunity to raise money for charity, whilst enjoying a few days’ extreme’ sporting break.
