As part of the spectacularly packed D23 Expo, Disney just casually threw in the news that they’re planning a Star Wars-themed hotel for their Orlando theme park.

The movie studio, which also announced several upcoming film projects and updates (including the casting for their long-awaited Aladdin movie), will be opening two Star Wars Land areas in their resorts. The California branch will launch a first in 2019, followed by the Florida park later the same year. Both zones will be called Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge.

Other announcements over the weekend included news that a Ratatouille experience will be added in Florida as well as a ride based around popular Marvel adaptation Guardians of the Galaxy.

Guests will actually become ‘citizens’ and have the option of dressing up in character throughout their stay. Every room in the hotel will also boast a view looking straight out into space.

Employees, or ‘cast’ as Disney like to call them, will also be in costume.

Bob Chapek, chairman of Walt Disney Parks & Resorts, put it enthusiastically when he said: ‘From the second you arrive, you will become a part of a Star Wars story! You’ll immediately become a citizen of the galaxy and experience all that entails, including dressing up in the proper attire. Once you leave Earth, you will discover a starship alive with characters, stories, and adventures that unfold all around you. It is 100% immersive, and the story will touch every single minute of your day, and it will culminate in a unique journey for every person who visits.’

One other announcement was that Paris is to get a Marvel-inspired hotel based around the popular superhero characters from The Avengers series. Details remain sketchy but the likes of Iron Man and Spider-Man were mentioned.
