Famous as one of the most international cities in the Netherlands, Utrecht is home to some of the best restaurants in the country. Here are some of our favorites.

1. Restaurant Casa di David

Restaurant, Italian, Vegetarian, Vegan

This dark and atmospheric Italian restaurant is immediately striking for its design: a long, dimly-lit stone tunnel, with French doors opening out onto the canal. With an option for outdoor dining in fair weather, and a lengthy a la carte menu, dining at Restaurant Casa di David is always enjoyable. Well-known for their generous portions, fast service, and beautiful location. A must visit.

2. American Steakhouse Broadway

American Steakhouse Broadway

The American Steakhouse has a prime canal-side location, with a dining-space just inches from the water. One of the few American steakhouses in the city, and popular among visitors from the U.S., the menu is faithful to its inspiration, offering large portions of porterhouse steaks, rib platters, fries, onion rings and great beer. Hosting occasional live music performances and other events, the steakhouse can be extremely crowded even on weekdays, so be sure to call in advance for a reservation.

3. El Primo

El Primo

This high-end establishment, just a few short blocks from the Utrecht train station in Downtown, serves a medley of Greek and Italian cuisine. Well-known for the beautiful presentation of their dishes, excellent service, the freshness of their food and adherence to ethical principles (they are proud followers of the Slow Food Movement). With a modish, spotless interior, intimate lighting and great value dishes, El Primo is among the most highly acclaimed restaurants in the city.

5. Florent

Bistro, French, European, Vegetarian

The stunning, modern interior of Florent is enough to set the most experienced fine-diner agape. Sharp and bright, with an abundance of sea-blues, greens and reds, Florent is a veritable rainbow of colors. With gorgeous set-pieces of modern sculpture and an open kitchen, Florent specializes in French cuisine, with for a la carte and set menu options. A little tucked away in the neighborhood of the Speelklok Museum, and prone to fill up quickly, be sure to call in advance and make a note of directions!

6. C'est Ça

Restaurant, French

Conveniently located along the bustling Bollenhofsestraat, and famous for their thoughtfully created set menu (including expertly paired French wines and cheeses), C’est Ça has become a mainstay among fine-dining enthusiasts across the city. C’est Ça fills an important niche in the restaurant culture of Utrecht, and is guaranteed to provide a rewarding experience.

7. San Siro

San Siro

This commodious establishment, near the Architectuurcentrum Aorta and Museum Speelklok in Downtown, stands out from competitors in its attention to comfort. With armchair-style seating, plush soft-leather booths, and a warm color-range heavy on crimson and mahogany, San Siro puts you immediately at ease. Well-reviewed for their excellent service and modern presentation, San Siro specializes chiefly in Italian cuisine, with an emphasis on seafood and antipasti, and a carefully created set menu with over 20 options for wine pairings.

8. Restaurant Blauw

Restaurant, Indonesian

Among the most highly-reviewed Indonesian restaurants in the city, Blauw serves a set menu of usually around a dozen courses, with small, artfully presented portions carefully selected for a variety of tastes. Acclaimed for their traditional approaches to Indonesian cuisine, bright modern interiors, attentive service, and great value, Blauw is consistently featured among the city’s great culinary attractions.
