With its impressive fortified walls and Unesco-protected medieval citadel, Sighișoara is a must-see destination if you’re travelling in Transylvania. Cobbled streets, painted Saxon houses and watchtowers built by the city’s guilds provide plenty to explore. The best hotels put you close to the old-world action, bringing this Romanian city’s colourful past – this is the birthplace of Vlad the Impaler, after all – right to your doorstep.
