In Lisbon, sunny skies are an excellent excuse to spend days by the river, and Parque das Nações is where you’ll find one of the city’s cool and modern boardwalks filled with bars and restaurants. Between stretching your legs with long walks along the water, shopping at the Vasco da Gama Shopping Center, and enjoying views of the area’s beautiful contemporary architecture, sit at one of these bars for a cocktail, uma imperial, and some Portuguese petiscos.

1. Irish & Co

Gastropub, Pub, Portuguese, Irish

Head to Irish & Co to watch sports on their televisions, drink a pint on the terrace, or sample an international mix of Portuguese and Irish snacks. Spacious and welcoming, with seating indoors and outside, it’s a great spot for both small and large groups. It’s one of the few Irish-style pubs in the city and the view of the Tagus River from the terrace is hard to beat. Live music during the evenings rounds out the experience nicely.

2. Sky Bar Oriente

Cocktail Bar, Portuguese, Contemporary

From this sophisticated rooftop bar, the Tagus River stretches into a panoramic view of the city, and it’s easy to appreciate the architectural feat of the Vasco da Gama Bridge from its vantage point. Next door are Lisbon’s twin skyscrapers, luxury apartment buildings shaped like ship hulls, and the views from indoors are equally impressive. Oriente Sky Bar is easily one of the city’s more sophisticated bars, where twinkling lights shine a romantic glow over the trendy seating and décor. Gin masterpieces are a popular beverage choice, although the full bar also serves a wide range of wines (in addition to other drinks and spirits), and the food menu includes sushi as well as nationally and internationally favorite recipes.

3. Rocket Bar

Bar, Cocktail Bar, Portuguese

Listen to live music while sitting in the lounge-like Rocket Bar, located north of the Vasco da Gama Bridge. Alternatively, sit outside on the terrace for cool breezes and conversation unhindered by the music. Try one of the cocktails, sangria, or keep it simple with a beer while you enjoy the entertainment inside, which sometimes includes stand-up comedy.

4. Bliss Bar

Bar, Portuguese

Watch the boats bob lazily from Bliss Bar, located on the marina. In addition to beer, wine and cocktails, you can order fresh juices, smoothies and frozen fruit slush (called granizados), as well as toasted sandwiches and baguettes. Late in the evenings, Bliss Bar is another venue in Parque das Nações where you will find live music playing into the night.

5. Já Te Disse

Já Te Disse is a neighborhood-style bar with an outdoor terrace that’s perfect for evening drinks while sharing appetizers with friends—now that it’s summer, why not order caracóis?. The televisions regularly show sought-after sporting events, so it’s also a good place to watch the Portuguese national team in the World Cup this year. Incorporate lunch at Já Te Disse into a full day at Parque das Naçoes and a visit to the Lisbon Oceanarium, Europe’s largest indoor aquarium.

6. Me & You

Bar, Portuguese

Me & You is a café-bar in the middle of the neighborhood’s commercial center, where you can go for breakfast, lunch, dinner, and drinks. It also offers an array of sweet delights, from homemade pancakes to waffles and different ice cream sundae concoctions. Just a short walk from Oriente Station, and near many hotels, it is conveniently located and easy to find.

7. Cartel 36

Bar, Restaurant, Portuguese

Bright and modern, with slightly rustic décor, Cartel 36 is a modern restaurant during the day that converts to a bar at night. Trendy and with artistic hints, it’s a cheerful spot to visit solo, with family, or with friends. One of the more unique touches is the line of white powder, made of olive oil on a slate, that’s served with bread and greets customers looking for dinner or lunch.
