Formerly a townhouse belonging to the local aristocracy, Albergo Cappello is now a three-star boutique hotel with just seven exclusive rooms. Each one is decked out in traditional Venetian style – think crystal chandeliers, plush bedding and baroque wallpaper. The hotel also boasts a highly-regarded restaurant, serving meat and fish dishes, plus there’s an onsite enoteca where you can sample the best Italian wines from the region.

2. Sant'Andrea Hotel

Situated in the heart of Ravenna, Sant’Andrea Hotel is 150 metres away from the Basilica of San Vitale and within short walking distance from the pedestrian shopping area. The original building was part of a 17th century convent. Today, it’s been converted into a simple hotel with single rooms for solo travellers, as well as interconnecting suites for families and groups. Make yourself at home in the cosy lounge. From here, doors lead out to the communal garden where breakfast is served in the summer months.
