In the south of France, the commune of Villeneuve-les-Avignon is a great place to go holidaying. If you get hungry on your excursions, though, you might like to check out these top 10 restaurants.

1. La Java des Papilles

Dine in this very beautiful, breezy restaurant and you wont be disappointed. Sit outside in the square and enjoy the atmosphere. Sample from the menu the cuttlefish – a Provençal speciality, or try the chicken tagine, and you will leave the restaurant satiated. There is also the mussels dish, as well as a typical Italian salad. All of the ingredients and the dishes are excellent and fresh, and will wake up your taste buds a treat.

2. Le Bistrot du Moulin

Le Bistrot du Moulin is located in an olive oil mill and shop that sells so many different kinds of things. Items to buy range from truffle and olive oil to fig jam and chocolate spreads. It is well worth the slight walk away from the main restaurants in Villeneuve. With a beautiful courtyard for dining as well as being pretty inside, you cannot go wrong in this restaurant. Sample from the menu the fish dishes. These are served beautifully soft and fresh with plenty of vegetables. Come hungry and prepare to leave full.

For a fantastic restaurant in Villeneuve-Les-Avignon, go to Les Jardins De La Livree. The food and the service is wonderful. You will be greeted by a very friendly couple and dine in one of best places. There is an exceptional wine list. You will be delighted at the atmosphere if you sit outside under a canopy of nearly ripe grape vines. The food is absolutely delicious and well presented as well as being a reasonable price.

5. Rita Piccola Pizzeria Romana

For a really lovely little setting in a beautiful square, and for wonderful fresh pizza or your choice of a fresh and crisp salad, go to Rita Piccola Pizzeria Romana. Be treated to a nice little selection of artisan beers too. And, have the difficult choice of sampling a delicious wine from their really good wine list. This restaurant is well worth a visit, just for the friendly service – not to mention the high quality of the food. It has the sweetest vine tomatoes, the lightest, fluffiest crust, the freshest mozzarella… even the most basic Margherita here tastes phenomenal. Plus, it’s a great place to take the kids.

6. Le Prieure

Go to Le Prieure for delectable food. Located in the lavish hotel of the same name, the food here is fresh, flavorful and amazingly presented. Start with either the amuse bouche, the mackerel, the crunchy mussels, the salmon-sea bass, or the veal and you will not be disappointed. Don’t forget to sample a cheese plate, and a very creative grapefruit delicious dessert. Everything is so creative and delicious, you will want to come back for more food.

7. L’Enclos de Saveurs Salines

For delectable seafood, go to L’Enclos de Saveurs Salines. The seafood at this spot is totally fresh, the service is excellent and the price is more than reasonable. Order the platter; the amount and the variety of the food definitely won’t disappoint you. One of the best dishes is the Homard Canadien, Canadian lobster, so be sure to sample it. With great service, this restaurant is a hidden gem with a very nice terrace. You will not be disappointed by the food or the atmosphere.

Go to Cave Saint Marc for truly delicious food. The starters are absolutely fantastic. Sample the squid and the mackerel from the list of starters and you won’t be disappointed. The staff will recommend excellent local wines for you too so you can wash it all down and give your tastebuds a treat. The mains are also delicious with a bit of a twist from traditional French cuisine. You can sample the spicy dips and rice with hugely portioned steak and great quality sea bass.

9. La Table des Saveurs

The menu at La Table Des Saveurs is creative and exciting, their service diligent but not intrusive, and the ambience absolutely inviting. For these reasons, you should really consider visiting this restaurant if you are in the Avignon area. The outdoor tables are laid out in a delightful little courtyard, dressed in shades of pink. The food melts in the mouth: sample from the menu the stuffed courgette flowers or the succulent pork belly. Or, perhaps the swordfish steak dish served in a bed of Provençal vegetables.

10. La Salamandre

La Salamandre is the perfect restaurant in which to fill your stomach in on your excursions around Villeneuve-les-Avignon. Select from the menu the red fish with rice or with pomme frites (fried potatoes). Appetizers will not disappoint either: choose from goat cheese toasts or eggplant cake from the wider range of starters. All ingredients are fresh and the flavors are exceptional. The service is difficult to fault, with always amiable staff. The restaurant itself has an intimate interior decor with outdoor seating in the square.
