Østerbro is one of the residential districts of Copenhagen, located north of the city center. The area is named after the old eastern city gate and is primarily home to young academics. Østerbro stretches from neighboring Nørrebro on one side to Copenhagen’s harbor on the other. Characterized by quaint cafes and elegant wine bars, Østerbro invites you in with its relaxed atmosphere and cobbled streets. Here are 10 of the best bars in the city.

Oozing old school Danish charm, Søernes Ølbar invites you in with its rustic interior and relaxed atmosphere. The name hints of the bar’s location, as it translates to ‘the beer bad of the lakes’. In summer months, you can relax outside in the sun and enjoy a great view of the Sortedams Lake. Søernes Ølbar is known for their wide beer selection, coming from all over the world. Step into Kitjn, one of Østerbro’s best cocktail bars. The bar’s name comes from the Danish word for kitchen and the space is so relaxed and welcoming you may really feel like you’re just having a drink in your best friend’s kitchen. Kitjn specializes on making great rum cocktails. The menu changes seasonally to reflect available ingredients. Join them before 9pm to enjoy a happy hour on selected cocktails. If you wish to taste the best beers the Nordic region has to offer, head down to Tap10. As the name suggests, the bar has ten local beers on offer, the selection of which varies. Besides the beers on tap, there is a menu with bottled beers and cocktails. Situated in the heart of Østerbro, Tap10 has a great view on the Gunnar Nu Hansen’s Square and nearby park. Ocean Club is an elegant and classy bar, located in Copenhagen’s harbor. During summer months you can enjoy sitting on a large terrace, overlooking the marina and the city’s waterfront. The interior is modern and sleek, featuring a long dark bar and white, high bar stools in the center. Ocean Club serves award-winning house cocktails and classics. Among the favorites are A Pair, made from pear vodka, Irish cream syrup, passion fruit syrup and apple juice, and PinK PonG! with dark rum, Licor 43, cranberry juice and passion fruit syrup.

5. Co-ma

Cocktail & mad, or Co-ma for short, combines a cocktail bar and a burger restaurant. Co-ma is known for its quality food and great cocktails. The cocktail menu offers a selection of classics, but featuring Co-ma’s house twist. A must try is Co-ma’s classic gin and tonic, awarded by Imbibe Magazine as the best in the world. The house specialty is Cucumber Collins – a variation of Tom Collins, made with cucumber, gin, lime and ginger beer.

Magrath’s Bar is an Irish and American inspired sports bar. The interior is characterized by dim lights, large screens and comfy seating booths. The menu primarily features beers, but Magrath’s serves refreshing cocktails as well. Check out the special offers, with discounts on drinks. During football game nights, Magrath’s packs quite a crowd, but during other nights the atmosphere is more toned down. Grab a glass of wheat beer or a stout and enjoy a game of pool on quieter nights.

7. Café Bopa

Café Bopa is a popular bar, located on Bopa Square. The square (and subsequently the bar) is named after the Danish resistance group, who gathered in the area during the Second World War to conspire against the occupying German army. Nowadays, the area is a relaxing green spot in the city with a quaint cafe that turns into a funky bar in the evening. Café Bopa is known to host live concerts and, on the quieter nights, local DJs are there to pump up the volume and the atmosphere.

Opened in 1984, Kruts Karport has been a local favorite hangout for a long time. The elegant and rustic bar with a welcoming atmosphere is known for its large and diverse whiskey selection. The menu includes more than 100 whiskey labels, as well as beers and absinthe. As a leading whiskey bar in the area, Kruts organizes whiskey tasting events to present their selection in greater detail. Drop by to enjoy a relaxed evening and try a glass of rich whiskey.

9. Figaro Bistrot Vinbar

Candle lights and high tables create an intimate environment, where you are invited to enjoy a glass of wine. The bar’s selection includes more than 130 wine bottles, primarily from France.

10. Oak Room

Oak Room is one of the best cocktail bars in Copenhagen, located just shy of Østerbro. Despite its name, Oak Room has a light interior. The seating area is split into smaller booths, adorned with dark couches and high tables. White walls with red decorations dim the lights and create the intimate atmosphere. In the center is a large wooden bar. The cocktail menu is split between classics and new faces, all with funky descriptions to inspire your selection.
