Ladies and gentlemen, get ready to don a black tie and a ball gown. The long wait is over, and the Dubai Opera will be opening its doors in less than a week. On August 31st, Dubai’s latest iconic building is expected to open with a performance by the world-famous baritone Plácido Domingo filling the halls of the state-of-the-art theater.
The first-ever stand-alone opera house in the UAE will be located in the Downtown Dubai Opera District. Amongst residential towers, the Dubai Mall, the infamous Dubai Fountain, and record-breaking Burj Khalifa, you will definitely catch a glimpse of the latest addition to Dubai’s iconic architectural scene when strolling around the neighborhood on your next trip.

A video posted earlier this week took everyone by surprise and gave the world a first look from the theater terrace:

A full lineup of shows with international sensations such as Coppélia, Les Miserables, and West Side Story have been scheduled, and tickets are already on sale for the main theater hall. No dress code has been set, but the traditional black tie and ball gown are expected to fill the 2,000-seat theater. With less than a week to opening night, the legendary Plácido Domingo will be opening the show at the main theater pictured below.

The building’s unique architecture created by award-winning architect Janus Rostock was inspired by traditional dhow boats of pearl divers, some of the first residents in the UAE.

In construction since 2013, take a look at the journey it’s taken to create the dhow-shaped building, the latest addition to Dubai’s architectural portfolio.
