Just like any large city, Izmir has its share of both traditional and modern venues when it comes to its restaurant and café scene. From a cup of Turkish coffee brewed the traditional way to a very stylish and young coffee shop with all those flat white, cappuccino, and espresso options, Culture Trip chose the best coffee representatives in Izmir.

1. Two Cups Coffee Bar & Roastery

Coffee Shop, Coffee, Turkish

As expected of a good roastery, Two Cups selects quality coffee beans from all around the world to make some pretty delicious brews, including a very good espresso and flat white. Their homemade desserts are also a great accompaniment.

2. Baristocrat 3rd Wave Café & Roastery

Cafe, Turkish

One of the leading third wave coffee roasters in Izmir, Baristocrat selects and imports their own coffee beans, which are then meticulously roasted in-house. Much more than a café, Baristocrat also hosts classes and workshops for future baristas as well as selling all kinds of coffee paraphernalia.

3. Brothers Coffee Roastery

Coffee Shop, Turkish, Coffee

A very laid-back coffee shop where you’ll always find people sitting outside enjoying the sunny weather, Brothers roasts their own beans for a great selection of coffees. From cortado to filtered coffee and even Turkish coffee, hanging out at Brothers for a while is always relaxing.

4. 97 Coffee & Brew Bar

Cafe, Turkish

Two lady barista friends who met each other in 1997 (hence the name 97) run this cozy coffee shop. The two besties serve up excellent brews with different techniques such as Syphon, V60, Chemex, Aeropress, and cold brew. As for the delicious baked goods, they’re all homemade by the loving hands of one of the owners’ mothers.

5. Münire

Cafe, Turkish

Quite the standout among Izmir’s coffee shops, there’s something palpably nostalgic about Münire, which also sells antique and vintage goods. Apart from the excellent Turkish coffee, Münire also sells 20 different kinds of Turkish gazoz (soda pop).

6. Şükrü Bey’in Yeri

Cafe, Turkish

Located in the beautiful Kızlarağası Hanı (a caravanserai built in 1744), Şükrü Bey’in Yeri is very much affected by its historic surroundings. Here you’ll find excellent Turkish coffee that is brewed in its own cup (a first!) and a very traditional setting that removes you entirely from the city’s modern vibe.

7. Poka Coffee Roasters

Cafe, Coffee Shop, Coffee, Turkish

One of those places where you can hang out for hours, Poka really stands out with its sea foam green and yellow colors and large outside seating area (which is always crowded). Poka’s baristas are also quite serious about their brews and love to chat it over if you’re interested in learning something new about your favorite drink.

8. Awake Coffee & Espresso

Cafe, Coffee Shop, Turkish

This third wave coffee shop has a daily selection of brews that you’ll find on a blackboard outside. One of the first of its kind in Izmir, serious coffee lovers will get their fix at Awake, with a long list of brews including something extra such as an espresso con panna or an affogato.
