One of Edirne’s most popular breakfast spots is certainly Tadım, which stands out with its many forms of menemen (eggs with diced peppers and tomatoes) that are served straight from the griddle. Pretty unassuming from the outside, this little restaurant is a local favorite for breakfast at any time of the day.

Börek (thin layers of baked dough with various fillings) is a very popular option when it comes to breakfast in Edirne and you’ll find a lot of bakeries specializing in the various shapes and forms of börek. Edirne Börekçisi is one of the best places to get excellent börek with cheese, minced meat, or spinach or poğaça (fluffy pastry with filling) alongside a freshly brewed glass of Turkish tea.

One of Edirne’s most unique breakfast spots is inside a beautiful park where the former Ottoman hunting lodge, commissioned by Mehmet IV in 1671, is located. Tables are set up all around the ornate structure and the delicious Serpme Kahvaltı (Turkish breakfast with cheeses, olives, eggs, tomatoes and cucumbers, toasted pide bread, and plenty of tea) is enjoyed under the shade of trees.

Lalezar

Another breakfast spot with a great location, Lalezar looks out over the Meriç River and the beautiful historic Meriç Bridge built in 1843. Start your day gazing at the serene river and a Turkish breakfast setup, including different omelette varieties, cheeses, olives, spreads, Turkish breakfast pastries, and plenty of kaymak (clotted cream) and honey. Lalezar is also great for families because of the playground that’s right nearby.

Another great place to get some of the city’s best börek, Bahar Börek Evi offers the simple yet delicious Edirne breakfast composed of börek and freshly brewed Turkish tea. Choose from poğaça varieties that are fresh out of the oven, handmade gözleme with different fillings, and the local favorite su böreği (boiled and then baked sheets of dough filled with feta cheese and parsley). If you have a craving for something sweet, you can also try Bahar’s delicious baklava assortments.

One of Edirne’s best charcuteries also serves up one of the city’s best breakfasts with all kinds of cheeses, cold cuts, and spreads. Try Günaydın Gourmet‘s much loved Kavureç toast (braised lamb meat cubes, melted kaşar cheese, and spices) or go for the Serpme Kahvaltı for two people that includes the charcuterie’s best cheeses, cold cuts, spreads, fried eggs with sucuk, jams, and much more.

Edirne locals can’t get enough of börek for breakfast and Deniz Börekçisi is another favorite breakfast spot that makes excellent börek and poğaça varieties served with tea, ayran (yogurt drink), or their homemade lemonade. Try the flaky and delicious kol böreği or boşnak böreği with minced meat or feta cheese, or the much-loved börek with potato filling.
