With so much history to its name, Istanbul doesn’t fall short when it comes to opportunities for antique hunting. From serious Ottoman pieces to the more whimsical leftovers from yesteryears, the city’s various corners all have their top notch antique finds.

1. Sah Galeri

Sah Galeri

On Istanbul’s Asian side, Tellalzade street in Kadıköy is the main artery where to go on a quest for antiques, and one of the best has to be Sah Galeri. Owned by a charming couple, the space is overflowing with beautiful vintage furniture, art, porcelain, paintings busts, and a great collection of hand painted signs, posters, and antique toys.

2. Sofa Galata

Sofa Galata

The second branch of Sofa Art and Antiques is in a much more accessible spot — nestled in the trendy cobblestoned streets of Galata. However, it provides the same attention to detail in terms of carefully selected prints, maps, miniatures, objects, paintings, silver, and rugs.

3. Feriköy Flea Market

Market

As one of the city’s only worthy flea markets, Sundays at Feriköy is a favorite for antique seekers that would like a good bargain. Everything imaginable is displayed on various stalls — from old photographs to LP records, antique cameras to radios, typewriters to watches (and much more).

4. Aslı Günşiray

Aslı Günşiray

If you’re ready and able to put down some good money for high quality antiques, then Aslı Günşiray will become your favorite antique dealer. Ms. Günşiray has spent decades accumulating a collection that includes objects from the Ottoman era and Anatolian art as well as antique furniture, coffee sets, liqueur bottles, and vases from the French, Far East, or Turkish regions.

5. Modern Tarih

Modern Tarih

With a more Far Eastern aesthetic, Modern Tarih has stunning examples of antique objects from countries such as China, Africa, and Mongolia. You’ll set your sights on beautiful tapestries, ornate hand-carved wooden doors and stone gates, jewelry, furniture, and porcelain objects.

6. A la Turca

Shop

A la Turca

Certainly one of Çukurcuma’s most famous antique dealers, A la Turca has several floors filled with an exclusive collection. There for you to find are beautiful antique Anatolian carpets, Ottoman textiles, furniture, pottery, kaftans, ceramics, and more.

7. The Works ‘Objects of Desire’

The Works ‘Objects of Desire’

Quite the standout among the other antique dealers, The Works is a visual storm of vintage finds that you’ll really have to browse through. The shop has endearingly odd objects like vintage arcade games, anatomical models, refrigerators from the 60s, and a notable collection of vintage erotica. No wonder Orhan Pamuk asked for the owner’s help when amassing items for his Museum of Innocence.

8. OnSekiz

Store

OnSekiz

OnSekiz is the place for industrial lighting and factory lamps from the 30s to the 70s and you’ll find original examples in prime condition. The store’s owner also replicates nostalgic hand-painted signs, which can be custom made to order. Right next door at Sıfır Interiors is the owner’s other collection of vintage-items-turned-furniture. We’re talking about an X-ray machine that’s found new life as a table or an airplane seat from the 60s turned into a comfy armchair.
