10 Up-and-Coming Interior Designers From Istanbul

Istanbul designers have plenty of inspiration, considering they live in a city that is not only rich in history and tradition but also has its foot firmly set in modernity. We took a look at some of the best up-and-coming interior designers whose styles all differ.

1. RB Living

Store

Founded by Rezzan Benardete, RB Living is known for designing the interiors of wealthy homes in Bebek. As such, a modern style is always at the forefront, with touches of Istanbul and an undeniably cool flair. To get an idea of Benardete’s personal style, drop by the RB Living office and store to see some of the furniture, textiles, and decorative pieces that have made her such a big name.

I-D Istanbul

Belonging to the very popular furniture and home décor store Ham:m, I-D Istanbul takes on that unmistakably retro-inspired style and furnishes beautiful spaces that are cool in every sense of the word. Designers İdil Özbek and Muhammer Taşlı are known for their use of natural wood, which always stands out in their modern and young aesthetic.

Merve Kahraman

Having studied interior design at the Istituto Europeo di Design in Milan, Merve Kahraman worked at architecture firms in London and New York before moving back to Istanbul to start her own studio. Her style is an impeccable combination of youthful cool with just the right touch of sleek modernity.

2. Esra Kazmirci

Having won the European Property Awards for Interior Design for 2016-2017, as well as being shortlisted for The International Design and Architecture Awards 2017, Esra Kazmirci is one of the most important up-and-coming names in the Istanbul design scene. Her company focuses on minimal, but striking interior design for residential and commercial interiors.

3. Özhan Hazırlar

University

One of the first Turkish interior designers to be featured by Devianart.com, Özhan Hazırlar is from Reyhanlı and studied interior architecture at Hacettepe University. By 2001, the talented designer opened his own studio and has been responsible for the modern interior design of residences, spas, hotels, and offices.

4. Naifdesign

One of the most popular design studios on the Asian side, Naifdesign is anything but naïve when it comes to original interiors. The secret to Naifdesign’s products and projects are a group of young and talented designers who have managed to get their brand’s name on renowned design websites, such as Design Milk, with their often whimsical designs that don’t shy away from using re-purposed and recycled materials.

The design style of Hakan Ezer is quite unique in Istanbul because of a wildly successful confluence of antique and modern. In his store in Çukurcuma, you can really get a feel for the kind sophisticated style that Ezer has mastered and bestowed upon his clients.

6. Tayfun Mumcu

There’s something extremely cozy yet sleek about the interiors of Tayfun Mumcu, whose designs always express the personality of his clients thoroughly. A former architect, Mumcu has also dabbled in jewelry and furniture design, which also shows his self-proclaimed “cool-classic” style.

Her keen interest in cultural diversity, history, and modern movements are all represented in her interior design projects as well, which have included beautiful summer homes as well as historic waterfront mansions.

8. Autoban

One of the most well known interior design firms in Istanbul, Autoban’s idiosyncratic style has turned many of Istanbul’s most well-known boutique hotels and restaurants into stunning spaces. After working together on several projects, designers Seyhan Özdemir and Sefer Çağlar came together to establish their own studio that brings together architecture, design, and products.
