Whether you’ve been doing yoga for years or are just looking to improve your fitness, Shanghai has a yoga studio that’s right for you. From convenient and popular chains to small, personalized studios, everyone can experience the yoga that is right for them.

Body and Soul Yoga Club

Perhaps the most popular yoga studio among Shanghai expats, Body and Soul Yoga Club offers a wide range of yoga schools and levels from beginner to advanced. Experienced yogis may be interested in exploring kriya, kunjal kriya, pranayama, meditation, or nidra yoga, while expectant mothers can center their bodies with prenatal yoga. There are also hot yoga classes, anti-aging yoga classes, back pain therapy, and more. Many students purchase an annual membership, but drop ins are also welcome. There are four studio locations around the city, meaning convenience for everyone.

1. The Orange Room Wellness Center

School, Yoga Studio

If you’re new to yoga, the best place for you in Shanghai is the Orange Room. Centered around a vision of providing effective and safe movement modalities, holistic therapies, and knowledge to those seeking to achieve physical health and wellness, the Orange Room is a non-judgmental space in which feeling secure is more important than getting all the postures just right. The instructors teach a unique school of yoga that is a mix of hatha, anasara and iyengar. One yoga and one pilates class are offered for free to first time guests.

Z&B Fitness

Z&B Fitness is not exclusively a yoga studio, but instead bills itself as a boutique fitness center offering a range of dance, yoga, fitness, and pilates classes. All instructors are internationally trained, multilingual professionals. In fact, classes are offered in English, Chinese, French, German, and Danish. Several varieties of yoga are available, including –most interestingly – aerial yoga. Price packages range from five classes to 100, and members have access to everything from pilates boxing to detox vinyasa and everything in between.

Classes at Red Door Yoga ensure that each individual gets personalized instruction. Ashtanga is the primary school of yoga taught here, but vinyasa, flexibility, and handstand are available as well. All four instructors collectively have decades of yoga experience under their belts, class prices are kept low, and mats can be rented for a small fee. For those who prefer more intimate learning, Red Door is the perfect spot.
