If you’ve got a spare US$80,000 (£62,000) burning a hole in your pocket – and who doesn’t – then why not spend a night at the world’s most expensive hotel suite. That’s right, for the same price as a brand new luxury car or roughly 80 round-the-world tickets you too can spend a night at the Royal Penthouse Suite at Hotel President Wilson in Geneva, Switzerland.

For your money, you’ll have the entire top floor of the hotel, with incredible views over Lake Geneva from an outdoor terrace, not to mention your own Steinway grand piano.

The Royal Penthouse Suite lies in Elite Traveler’s 2017 selection of the world’s top 100 suites and topped the 10 most expensive suites list. For its yearly selection, the magazine guides travellers to the most exclusive rooms perfect for beach breaks, city stays or adventure holidays; in the top 100, the US leads the way with 24 suites, followed by 10 in the UK and nine in France.

A British hotel suite included on the full list is The Royal Suite at The Lanesborough, London, which offers guests a chance to travel round the city in the chauffeur-driven Rolls-Royce Phantom – a car which costs nearly half a million dollars.

Sitting with the Royal Penthouse Suite on the list of the most expensive is the Royal Suite at Hôtel Plaza Athénée in Paris. Its balcony overlooks the magnificent Eiffel Tower, and guests have use of their own private steam room and jacuzzi. Art lovers might prefer the Penthouse Suite at Grand Hyatt Cannes Hôtel Martinez, in France, where they can admire artworks by the late, great Pablo Picasso without having to leave their chambers.
