Even though traditional Albanian cuisine is largely meat-based, it also offers many vegetarian options. In Tirana, there are few vegetarian-only places, but most of the traditional restaurants, as well as those that have recently opened in town, have several meat-free options on their menus. The most famous vegetarian and vegan restaurant in Tirana is Veggies. This cozy spot located in Blloku, the coolest neighborhood in town, is the place to be for those who are familiar with quinoa, exotic vegan salads, guacamole, veggie noodles, couscous dishes, and so on. It is also the best place in town to try new exotic and vegetarian flavors. Veggies may be a little pricier than other places in Tirana, but it is a great place to go.

Mullixhiu

In front of Tirana’s artificial lake, one of the most beautiful spots in town, sits Mullixhiu, the coolest restaurant in the Albanian capital. Chef Bledar Kola, who worked at the world-famous Noma in Copenhagen, invites guests to taste traditional Albanian flavors reinvented in a sophisticated and modern way – the result is an excellent mix of old and new. The ingredients are taken directly from Mrizi I Zanave, a gorgeous farmhouse-cum-restaurant located near the town of Lezhe, in the north of the country. Try the pomegranate juice, it is simply delicious. Also, the wine list is outstanding, with wines from Albania’s most famous wineries, including Kantina Kallmeti.

Chakra Jone, Tirana

Chakra Jone is the only Indian restaurant in Tirana, located in the neighborhood of Komuna e Parisit, not far from the artificial lake. Chakra’s incredibly large menu offers a selection of vegetarian dishes, such as lentil soup, cauliflower cooked with cumin and ginger, and peas with cheese, just to name few. Also, don’t forget to order one or more kinds of their traditional tasty Indian breads.

Oda

If you want to taste authentic Albanian cuisine, there is only one place to go – Oda. This traditional restaurant, located near the beautiful Pazari I Ri market, has recently been renovated and is one of the last places in town where you can eat typical Albanian delicacies, such as fërgesë (cottage cheese with peppers), patëllxhanë te mbushur (eggplant cooked with spices), kukurec (lamb entrails) and more. The space is small and usually frequented by locals who come here to enjoy traditional flavors.

Happy Belly is a vegan bar/restaurant in the heart of Blloku district, near the Sky Tower, one of the best panoramic spots of the town. This small little bar has several interesting vegan and veggie options and also serves excellent smoothies and juices perfect for the hot Albanian summer days.
