It might seem like bad advertising to name your hotel after the district it sits in, but Le Pigalle really does embody the party-until-dawn spirit of the area. The rooms have a cool retro vibe with striking red furniture, kitsch (and sometimes racy) art on the walls, vinyl players and even hotel-branded condoms. There’s a casual food hall with a simple but appealing menu (as well as a reduced late menu available until 2am), but the location also puts you within a short walk of several well-regarded restaurants.

The Villa Royale isn’t difficult to spot – it’s down the street from La Fontaine Pigalle and features a vaudeville-style red awning over the entrance. Red is a colour you need to get used to if you’re staying here, as almost all of the rooms are red from top to bottom, including the velvet wardrobe doors, curtains over the beds and all the other theatrical flourishes. It was a favourite of Picasso’s. Today, it offers plenty of communal space, including the breakfast buffet area, where the striking rococo-style continues.

Hôtel Rochechouart sits right on Montmartre hill and has been welcoming guests since 1929. While it underwent a renovation by legendary hoteliers Anouk and Louis Solanet, it’s lost none of that original charm. The art deco vibe is strong here, with mosaics in the lounge area, a vintage (but completely safe) elevator and a rooftop bar covered in greenery and offering a decidedly Instagram-friendly view of the Eiffel Tower. Despite all this bustle, the hotel is neatly tucked around a dead-end side street, enabling it to carve out a serene existence. The rooms and the common areas have a bright art deco feel, with splashes of yellow, pink and green, as well as some funky artwork and furniture. There are 77 rooms, all with minibars, ethically sourced bathroom products and a gourmet room service menu.

Before Les Matins was a hotel, it was a brothel, which might furrow some brows, but today, none of that seediness is on display.
