Harbour Lights

Named the Best Fish and Chip Restaurant earlier in 2017, Harbour Lights is almost a Falmouth rite of passage. The double-cooked crispy chips, along with the famous fish burgers, are reason to dine at Harbour Lights. Take out is available but the food only becomes more magical in the stylish restaurant which looks out over Falmouth harbour.

Port and Starboard

The Port and Starboard is a popular fish and chip shop for almost anyone who lives in, or has visited, Cornwall. This father-and-son establishment, which is based in Indian Queens, has won countless awards for its tasty grub. The menu is extensive and caters for all tastes and dietary requirements.

Lewis’s

Considering how well know the area is for fishing, it’s surprising that there’s only one chippie in Newlyn, but then again, one chippie is all you need when it tastes as good as that coming out of Lewis’s. The specials here change daily, depending on what is fresh from the sea that day and all produce is local.

Stein’s

Although Rick Stein has fish and chip joints dotted all over Cornwall, it’s his flagship shop in Padstow which draws queues outside the door all year round. The fish is cooked in homemade batter and then deep fried in beef drippings for that extra punch of flavour and crunch. All sauces are made in-house, meaning you’ll never go away with packets of ketchup and mayonnaise.

Becks

This family-run chippie on the outskirts of St Ives attracts fellows from all over Cornwall for its fish and chips. Becks has been a firm favourite with the Cornish since 1971 and it is proud to source only sustainable fish. Be warned, the portions which come out of Becks are large; a regular chips is what you would usually expect a large to look like!

If you want delicious fish and chips on the beach, with sweeping views of the Cornish North coast all the way up from St Ives to St Agnes, then lunch at the Porthminster Beach Cafe is a must.
