New Survey Shows this City is the Safest in China
In a recent study from Chinese online travel service Ctrip.com, thousands of Chinese tourists voted on what they thought the safest country and city in the world is, and the results are in.
The recent Ctrip.com survey polled thousands of randomly selected Chinese tourists on which destination they feel is the safest. Perhaps unsurprisingly, respondents voted China as the safest country and Shanghai as the safest city.
“Asked to list the 10 safest tourist destinations worldwide, 67 percent of the respondents voted for China,” reports Yicai Global. “The findings suggest tourists are readily influenced by recent incidents such as terrorist attacks, natural disasters, savage crimes and major epidemics and media reports when they consider whether a country is safe to visit.”
For Chinese tourists specifically, the study reveals that other factors like price, government stability, and how welcoming locals are can sway a decision to visit a destination.
Beijing and Hangzhou came in second and third as the country’s safest cities. “The findings also show a positive correlation between locals’ income and the maturity of the local tourism market and how safe a city is as perceived by tourists,” writes Yicai Global.
With more than 30 million Chinese tourists expected to travel abroad, the study proves that safety is a growing concern for this massive slice of the travel market.
