Mr Bean is set to make a return to the big screen in the amusingly titled film Top Funny Comedian: The Movie,but fans will have to head to China if they want to see him again.
The silent character, popularised in a long-running TV series, is the creation of Blackadder star Rowan Atkinson. Mr Bean started off as a skit in the comedian’s stage show and went on to feature in two spin-off films as well as an animated series.
Still popular around the globe, Atkinson apparently killed off the character several years ago but has resurrected the bumblingly lovable rogue in what appears to be a cameo role for the Chinese movie.

The movie features five Chinese stars who get lost in Macau, and need the help of Bean to get back home. The character is known as Mr Foolish in China, and remains a popular figure in local pop culture.
The trailer shows Atkinson in his unmistakable Mr Bean outfit, a beige tweed jacket and red tie, taking pictures with his phone. Given his proximity to impressive looking antiques, one can guess what will happen next…
Language is no barrier as the character is silent anyway. In Mr. Beans Holiday we saw Atkinson travel to France and end up at Cannes, again communicating via physical actions.
Comedian Guo Degang, who also stars in the film, told The Beijing that ‘[We communicated] just with facial expressions and gestures. We seemed to understand each other. It was a really interesting experience, which proves that comedy can cross boundaries.’
There are no plans to bring the movie to the UK, but Chinese audiences can see Top Funny Comedian now.
