Luxury Hotel Brand NÜWA to Debut in Macau

There’s no shortage of multimillion-dollar casino resorts in Macau, and adding to the list on Jan 16, 2018, will be NÜWA.

It’s a new luxury brand from City of Dreams that already operates a spree of casinos in the world’s most successful gambling hub. It’s been ushered in to replace the former upscale Crown Towers.

The rebranding of Crown Towers in both City of Dreams Macau and Manilla follows the end of the partnership between Crown Resorts and Melco Crown after Australian billionaire James Packer opted to pull out of Macau and sold his stake in the company last year.

NÜWA might appear to be an unusual choice of name, but it’s inspired by the eponymous deity from Chinese mythology. NÜWA, the mother goddess, is credited with creating mankind and repairing the Pillar of Heaven. In Macau’s case, ambitions are more modest, but it’s hoped that the new NÜWA brand will provide a better guest experience and represent the epitome of classic Asian refinement.

“We are excited to introduce NÜWA. The new hotel brand embodies the very essence of Melco’s pursuit to provide our guests the very best in sophistication, quality and innovation,” said Lawrence Ho, CEO of Melco Resorts, in a statement to the media.

This hotel brand won’t be the only one that City of Dreams will launch this year in Macau. Expected to open in May 2018, Morpheus Hotel, named after the God of Dreams, has been designed by renowned Zaha Hadid Architects and is set to become a mould-breaking new landmark in the city, offering something that is innovative, striking and unique to the area.

Meanwhile, the next major opening in Macau will be MGM China’s launch of its mega-casino resort MGM Cotai. At a total cost of US$3.4 billion, it took five years to build, and it is set to open on January 29, 2018. Billed as the “jewellery box of Cotai”, the new resort will offer approximately 1,400 hotel rooms and suites and will be home to Asia’s first dynamic theatre installed with the world’s largest permanent indoor LED wall. The resort will also house the first international MGM Mansions – think mini hotels within a hotel – for VIP guests.
