Extravagance doesn’t end at the multi-billion dollar casinos in Macau, it continues to the city’s spas where treatments like a diamond facial and 24-carat-gold body polish are on hand to leave you feeling and looking like a million dollars.

They say diamonds are a girl’s best friend, and they certainly are in Macau. So much so, you can now have ‘diamonds’ smothered over your face as part of a luxurious facial treatment designed to leave your skin shining bright like the precious gemstones.

A new 80-minute Flawless Diamond Facial has been introduced at the Iridium Spa inside the city’s five-star St. Regis Macao hotel. The spa utilises the secret power of gemstones for many of its treatments, which evidence suggests contain anti-ageing properties.

The spa is among the few that offer ‘diamond’ facials using Gemology, a deluxe French skincare line that uses powdered diamond, together with adenosine and orchid extract, to brighten the skin tone and activate skin cell renewal. It’s the star of the show when it comes to reversing the effects of ageing.

The treatment begins with purifying and peeling sessions to allow maximum absorption. What follows is a signature Gemstone Facial Massage and Eye Revitalising Treatment, both designed to promote circulation and boost collagen production. A Youth Diamond Mask with anti-ageing properties is then applied to diminish the appearance of wrinkles and create a luminous glow.

One of the highlights of the treatment is the heavenly stone therapy massage. Warm pink quartz stones are kneaded into the contours of the cheeks and rolled along the jawline. Pink quartz is a rosy-tinted mineral rich in silicon for naturally stimulating collagen reproduction. Following this, pointy pieces of jade are carefully prodded at the areas where frown lines and wrinkles often occur. Jade is naturally rich in sodium, providing moisture to the cells that helps restore elasticity.

The final stage is the application of the Youth Diamond Cream, made with real diamond, adenosine, and Vitamin E among other wrinkle smoothers. The end result is a complexion that is noticeably brighter, clearer, and smoother – the very embodiment of how you would expect diamond-kissed skin to look. Extravagant? Yes. But for those special occasions, there’s no harm indulging once in a while. Besides, who’s to say that your skin doesn’t deserve a little bit of diamond TLC every now and then.

Men need not feel left out either. They can also indulge in the ‘diamond facial experience’, with a line of products specially designed for him. After all, deep down, what man doesn’t enjoy a good pampering? While before the treatment most men might be considered more like ‘diamonds in the rough’, rest assured, after the experience they, too, can be polished gems.

The exquisite diamond facial experience is priced at HK$2,200 (US$282). The package includes a complimentary ‘My Beauty Box’ valued at HK$ 1,200 (US$154), and a 15% discount on additional spa and salon treatments.

Not to be outdone, the Shine Spa at the neighbouring Sheraton Grand Macao Hotel offers an equally extravagant 24-carat gold harmonising treatment. The luxurious treatment includes a 30-minute body scrub, a heavenly 90-minute harmonising massage, and a Shine Spa elemental gift set.

Gold is not just effective for beautifying jewellery and furnishings, it’s also an element that has properties that can benefit the skin. 24-carat gold can improve skin circulation, stimulate skin cells, as well as reduce the appearance of fine lines, wrinkles, sun damage and age spots. To enjoy the 24-carat gold pampering, it costs HK$1,588 (US$203).

So there you have it, in Macau, it’s not just the casinos that are gilded in gold and dripping in diamonds, you too can enjoy a personal touch of the diamond lifestyle.
