This idyllic Greek isle, with its whitewashed, flower-fringed accommodation options, is a worthy pilgrimage site.

Don’t let its rather sinister sobriquet as the ‘Island of the Apocalypse’ put you off – Patmos is a Greek retreat that’s as enchanting as it is inviting. The nickname refers to St John writing the Book of Revelations in a cave on this Dodecanese drop in the Aegean, accounting for the stream of pilgrims who’ve come to its shores ever since. But it’s the unspoiled scenery and serenity that attracts everyone from backpackers to A-listers to Patmos. Here are some of the most divine hotels in Patmos, all bookable with Culture Trip.
