The Best Hotels in Puerto Plata, Dominican Republic
Bounce over to Puerto Plata, the oldest town on the north coast of the Dominican Republic, to be surrounded by the best beaches on the island, mountainous scenery and waterfalls. Though the mega-resort town of Punta Cana is more popular with tourists, those willing to venture further north are rewarded with a wealth of established resorts to suit every budget. Read on and discover our guide to the best hotels in Puerto Plata, bookable with Culture Trip.
1. Senator Puerto Plata Spa Resort
Hotel
Slick, breezy and, vitally, all-inclusive, the Senator is for those who want to embrace the art of a shoeless, watchless, wallet-free break. Though you may have to make some stressful choices. There are 13 dining options: one buffet restaurant, three speciality restaurants with an à la carte dinner service, seven snack bars, plus two additional gastronomic experiences, to be exact. Rum tasting is an extra cost, but surely mandatory – after all, you’re in the Caribbean. Play tennis, basketball or beach volleyball, borrow equipment for water sports, including snorkeling, diving, paddle surfing, bodyboarding and kayaking, or take advantage of the free-to-use hammocks and towels at the pool and beach. Be sure to book in advance for the ever-popular swim-up rooms.
2. BlueBay Villas Doradas
Hotel
It’s grown-ups only beyond this point. This premium adults-only all-inclusive caters to couples, newlyweds and groups of friends. There are 245 spacious and luxurious rooms, and the villas are perfect for larger groups. Some of the higher-tier rooms come with extras such as a bottle of rum and unlimited à la carte dinners. On the activity front, there’s cooking classes, dance lessons and tennis among the offerings. The Playa Dorada golf course is also on the doorstep. To note, wifi isn’t included in any room rate. But you’re on vacation – so put that cell down, and head to the spa.
3. Cofresi Palm Beach & Spa Resort
Hotel
5. Sunscape Puerto Plata
Hotel
It’s a kid’s world at Sunscape, where there’s a red carpet children’s check-in experience, welcome treats and special resort passports for them. In fact, the Unlimited Fun package includes 24-hour access to food and beverages, including kid-friendly menu options. The Explorer’s Club, for kids aged three to 12 has weekly campout nights to fire their scouting spirit. But adults are certainly not left out. The resort is surrounded by an 18-hole golf course designed by the US golf architect Robert Trent Jones. Take a day trip to the Damajagua waterfalls, or head out to sea to visit the manatee marine sanctuary.
6. Emotions by Hodelpa Playa Dorada
Hotel
Roll out of bed straight into a cooling pool when you stay in the luxurious swim-out rooms at this hotel. All the rooms at the Emotions resort have a warm ambience, and sliding patio doors allow for ample natural light. Further your relaxation with a trip to the spa, where there’s a sauna, steam room, jacuzzi and a spread of treatments, including a chocolate body wrap. This is another resort close to the Playa Dorada Golf Course. But with so many on-site treats, from tipples at the Oak Wine & Cheese Bar to fresh lobster at the beachfront Bigaro restaurant, it’s tricky to make it off the property.

Since you are here, we would like to share our vision for the future of travel - and the direction Culture Trip is moving in.
Culture Trip launched in 2011 with a simple yet passionate mission: to inspire people to go beyond their boundaries and experience what makes a place, its people and its culture special and meaningful — and this is still in our DNA today. We are proud that, for more than a decade, millions like you have trusted our award-winning recommendations by people who deeply understand what makes certain places and communities so special.
Increasingly we believe the world needs more meaningful, real-life connections between curious travellers keen to explore the world in a more responsible way. That is why we have intensively curated a collection of premium small-group trips as an invitation to meet and connect with new, like-minded people for once-in-a-lifetime experiences in three categories: Culture Trips, Rail Trips and Private Trips. Our Trips are suitable for both solo travelers, couples and friends who want to explore the world together.
Culture Trips are deeply immersive 5 to 16 days itineraries, that combine authentic local experiences, exciting activities and 4-5* accommodation to look forward to at the end of each day. Our Rail Trips are our most planet-friendly itineraries that invite you to take the scenic route, relax whilst getting under the skin of a destination. Our Private Trips are fully tailored itineraries, curated by our Travel Experts specifically for you, your friends or your family.
We know that many of you worry about the environmental impact of travel and are looking for ways of expanding horizons in ways that do minimal harm - and may even bring benefits. We are committed to go as far as possible in curating our trips with care for the planet. That is why all of our trips are flightless in destination, fully carbon offset - and we have ambitious plans to be net zero in the very near future.
