For those who want the privacy of apartment living combined with the ease of hotel service, book a room at the Ascott Marunouchi Tokyo. Surrounded by high-end restaurants and shops, it’s perfect for those who want to experience the more sophisticated side of the city. A number of attractions are also just a short walk away, including the Imperial Palace, Tokyo Skytree, the Nezu Museum, Shinjuku Gyoen National Garden, Roppongi Hills and Tokyo Tower.

Explore Tokyo by train or by foot – the high-end shopping suburb of Ginza is just 10 minutes away. The Palace Hotel Tokyo is a five-star establishment with seven on-site restaurants, a spa, gym and indoor swimming pool. The location of the hotel is also one of its many charms, positioned right next to the Imperial Palace, with particularly gorgeous views from the chapel. The area around the hotel is excellent for strolling, with Ginza nearby.

6. Hoshinoya Tokyo

Hoshinoya Tokyo is the perfect blend of traditional ryokan and modern hotel luxury. The hotel has 84 rooms in total but is designed to feel like several smaller ryokan in one, with each of the 17 floors having its own central lounge. Like traditional inns, breakfast is served in the rooms and some of the onsen baths are open-air but completely private. When it comes to groundbreaking hotels, Hoshinoya Tokyo is still the city’s best.

Towering over the Imperial Palace and Hibiya Park, The Peninsula Tokyo is one of Marunouchi’s most striking buildings. Its unique exterior is the brainchild of architect Kazukiyo Sato. It was the first freestanding hotel that was allowed to be built in Tokyo in more than 10 years. Ever since opening, it’s been a city icon, and the interior is just as impressive as the outside. This luxury establishment houses 267 rooms and 47 suites that are designed in rich wooden and golden tones. There are a number of restaurants, while on the 24th floor you’ll find cocktail lounge Peter: The Bar, which serves up unparalleled city views.

One of the newest players on the local hotel scene, the Belken Hotel Tokyo is nestled in Nihonbashi, which is right next door to central Marunouchi. The fresh four-star hotel is contemporary and modern, furnished with minimalistic pieces. Bedrooms are sleek and sophisticated. The Belken Hotel is suited to couples looking for somewhere stylish but not overdone, with excellent access to the city’s sights. Popular Tokyo destinations such as the Imperial Palace, Tokyo Tower, Roppongi Hills and Tokyo Skytree are all less than five kilometres away and easily reached by taxi or train.

Hotel Ryumeikan is a Tokyo fail-safe. It’s a modern accommodation option with light-filled and spacious rooms offering panoramic city views. It’s also just a three-minute walk from Tokyo station, which provides easy access to places such as Akihabara and Ginza. The hotel has a lot going for it, but the biggest plus has to be its restaurant, Hanagoyomi. Having opened in late 2018, The Gate Hotel Tokyo by Hulic is one of Tokyo’s newer establishments. It’s quickly gaining traction, however, as one of the best hotels in Marunouchi. Just a 10-minute walk from the Marunouchi Building, the ultra-sleek hotel has floor-to-ceiling windows offering incredible city views. There’s also a lounge, teppanyaki restaurant and all-day restaurant. The hotel is close to the Tsukiji Fish Market and the Imperial Palace.
