Known for swaying palm trees and a golden 12-kilometer beach, the popular tourist town of Maspalomas is located in the southern part of Gran Canaria, Canary Islands. The pleasant weather throughout the year calls for long days spent bathing in the sun, swimming in the sea, visiting water parks, and experiencing the area’s famous golf course. To guarantee an unforgettable stay, here are 10 of the area’s best restaurants to add to your holiday itinerary.

1. Time Maspalomas

Restaurant, Italian, Seafood

Close to the Maspalomas Dunes, Time Maspalomas is the town’s most charming Italian restaurant. Though the small, independent locale doesn’t have beautiful seaside views (which many of the best restaurants in Maspalomas offer), the experience at Time’s is highlighted by the friendly staff and superior menu, comprised of homemade dishes. The atmosphere is relaxed, welcoming and cozy. Many love and recommend the restaurant because it makes them feel at home. Using fresh local seafood and meats, the restaurant serves a mixture of pastas, pizzas, sandwiches, and Italian cakes.

2. Restaurante Marco Polo

Restaurant, Pizzeria, Italian, Mediterranean, Spanish, Vegetarian, Vegan, Gluten-free

Restaurante Marco Polo evolved from a small family establishment that opened in 1980 and is one of the finest restaurants in the Playa del Ingles area of Maspalomas. They serve a delicious fusion of Spanish, Italian and Mediterranean cuisines with fresh pasta, meat dishes and seafood as their highlights. The restaurant, open Monday to Sunday only during dinner hours, has the perfect atmosphere if you’re in the mood for an upscale dinner or looking to celebrate a special occasion. Some of their must-try specialties include the Italian-Spanish solomillo funghi, a beef tenderloin topped with a creamy mushroom and truffle oil sauce, and the traditional Italian Orecchiette pasta with broccoli and anchovies.

3. Wapa Tapa

Restaurant, Spanish

Located in the heart of Yumbo Centrum, Wapa Tapa specializes in a creative mix of traditional Spanish and contemporary international tapas. Simple yet fresh and exciting, a few of the dishes include Spanish cheeses, Canarian wrinkled potatoes and Galician-style octopus. Wapa Tapa also offers sangria and a selection of Spanish wines at affordable prices, making it a place to relax and savor your meal without a rush. For an extra bit of excitement, ask for their special tapas selection, which changes daily according to the chef’s mood and inspiration.

5. Samsara

Restaurant, Spanish, Asian, Middle Eastern, Contemporary, Fusion

Opened in 2007, Samsara specializes in Asian fusion cuisine and offers one of the most unique and captivating dining experiences in Maspalomas. From the creative presentation and flavor of the dishes to the interior of the restaurant itself, Samsara is known to give a good first impression. Having a pleasant ambience, the restaurant is highly decorated and exhibits Indian sculptures, oriental art and spiritual ornaments from the Far East. The menu is comprised of Western dishes refreshed with Eastern spices and flavors, and come in large portions perfect for sharing.

6. Ristorante Grand Italia

Diner, Restaurant, Pizzeria, Italian, Seafood, Mediterranean, Vegan, Vegetarian, European, Fast Food

Located on the lively Boulevard El Faro, Grand Italia is an upscale Italian pizzeria with a vibrant atmosphere. Fantastic views are part of the dining experience, as the restaurant is right on the seafront. Specializing in homemade pastas, large Italian pizzas and fresh seafood, the menu includes a large amount of starters and entrees – completed with an extensive wine list and many desserts to choose from. Grand Italia is a little pricier than other dining options in Maspalomas, but it’s highly recommended by many visitors for its excellent food.
