Mancora has quickly become the surf-and-party destination for backpackers in Peru. It enjoys sun and good surf almost all year round, so party animals and surfers are flocking to this tiny beach town. The morning ocean sounds are quickly drowned out by nightfall when reggaeton is blasted from every beachfront restaurant. This atmosphere means a lot of hostels to choose from, but never fear; here’s our guide to the best of them.
The hostel is broken up into vibrantly colored bungalows that dot the property, overlooking the ocean. The bungalows are spaced out, so you have plenty of space and really feel like you have your own private beach. It’s hard to get a more secluded place.
If you don’t want the party scene in Mancora, this is the place to go. The owner is a knowledgeable surfer who can recommend surfing spots and places to rent boards and get surf lessons. There are plenty of hammocks to hang out in after surfing, and the hostel is just a short walk from the beach.
Right next to Casa Mancora lies Casa Naranja, which stays true to its name (naranja meaning ‘orange’) with orange walls and decorations. It has a very cozy feel, with palm trees covering most of the hostel, protecting it from the relenting sun. At night, when the low orange lights are turned on, you’ll never want to leave. You can make some food in the kitchen and enjoy a dinner in their dining area surrounded by palm trees.
Located across from Psygon Surf Camp, this hostel has everything you need. The Point boasts a pool, restaurant, bar, and plenty of accommodations. The food is very good and and the cocktails are delicious. It is a little far from the main break, but that means more peace and quiet at the hostel.
Psygon Surf Camp
There are lots of party hostels for surfers in Mancora, but this one is unusual in that it offers on-site kitesurfing and surfing lessons. It also has a Japanese–Peruvian restaurant, a bar, and a pool that you can hang out in if it’s too windy at the beach. Its location is bit of a walk from the main break. This hostel is well known for its parties.
Hospedaje Wiracocha Mancora
Only a short walk from the beach, Wiracocha sets the stage for a relaxing atmosphere, with hammocks strung in the entrance, welcoming you to your perfect beach vacation. The hostel has two stories and, on the second story, you get a hammock on your balcony. You can never really have enough hammocks, and this place knows it.
Loki Mancora is a party hostel, good and proper, so if that’s not the scene you’re looking for, you’ll be better off looking elsewhere. If that’s your idea of a great holiday, this will be the ideal hostel for you. The hostel is centered around a pool, with white rooms on one side and a bar on the other. There are computers, a bar, and a pool, and the beach is right outside the grounds.
