While the foodie spotlight shines on Lima, Cusco quietly goes about its business, serving up the freshest food in the country. Its location near the rainforest and atop the Andes makes it the meeting ground for fresh produce and unique culinary traditions. The city’s title as the tourist capital of Peru also means that locals are catering to travelers’ appetites, which means that vegan/vegetarian options abound. Here’s a look at the best healthy restaurants in Cusco, Peru.

1. Green Point

Restaurant, Vegan, Vegetarian, South American

Located in the trendy neighborhood of San Blas, Green Point is like a rite of passage for all travelers visiting Cusco: you must pass through their doors at least once. There’s an upstairs and a downstairs, both cozy and brightly decorated. The service is surpassed only by their great menu, which requires patrons to make tough decisions between delicious options – you’ll probably come back more than once.

2. Greens Organic

Restaurant, Vegan, Vegetarian, South American

Greens Organic is more expensive than Green Point, but delivers for the price. The restaurant is on the corner of the Plaza de Armas in the historical center, in the heart of everything in Cusco. The restaurant prides itself on organic, locally grown food. The ingredients come fresh each day from a farm in the Sacred Valley.

3. Shaman Vegan Raw Restaurant

Restaurant, Vegan, Vegetarian

You may not find another restaurant like this in the world. It’s part restaurant and part shaman shop, with jewelry and trinkets for sale lining the walls. One of the main tables is even filled with various local crystals used as centerpieces. The Shaman Restaurant offers both vegan and raw-diet options and even has menu items for those following the ayahuasca diet. In addition to enjoying fresh food, you also get a unique experience to take home with you.

5. Organika

Restaurant, Vegan, Vegetarian

Located just outside the Plaza de Armas, Organika has some of the freshest vegan options in Cusco at a price you can’t beat in the center of the city. They give you top-end food and presentation at half the price of some other places. With their numerous options, it’s a restaurant that you’ll likely visit multiple times.
