The Most Romantic Holiday Destinations in Colombia

Colombia is perhaps one of the best countries to enjoy a romantic holiday with your significant other. With such incredible diversity across the country, you can enjoy romance in beautiful little towns, cosmopolitan cities, or in the wilds of nature. Whatever your dream idea of romance, it’s available in Colombia.

Barichara

Known as “the prettiest town in Colombia,” the delightful, colonial pueblo of Barichara is located on the edge of a canyon in the Santander department. It’s perfectly preserved, and spending a few nights soaking up its amazing architecture, delightful little restaurants and cafés, and breathtaking viewpoints—before retiring to the pool in your boutique hotel to escape the midday heat—is perhaps the ultimate romantic weekend getaway in Colombia.

Tatacoa Desert

While the desert might not seem like a romantic holiday destination for some people, Colombia’s southern Tatacoa Desert really is a dream destination for lovers. Why? You can stay in one of Colombia’s most romantic luxury hotels, Bethel Bio Luxury Hotel, where you can sleep in adorable little pods in the desert and enjoy Colombia’s best stargazing by night.

Villa de Leyva

Another lovely little town, Villa de Leyva in the Boyaca department is just about the biggest rival to Barichara in the contest for “most beautiful town in Colombia.” With its vast, cobbled central square, amazing selection of Italian restaurants, quaint luxury hotels, and selection of activities, like horseback riding and wine tasting, Villa de Leyva is easily one of Colombia’s premier destinations for a romantic holiday.

Providencia

The paradisaical Caribbean island of Providencia is definitely one of Colombia’s best destinations for couples. It offers a perfect combination of top-class hotels and restaurants, beach bars serving delicious cocktails, sandy Caribbean beaches fringed by palm trees, and sparkling, azure waters. Consider staying in the picturesque and luxurious Deep Blue Hotel for the ultimate Colombian Caribbean romance experience—you will not be disappointed. However, disclaimer, you may leave more in love than when you first arrived!

Cartagena

Arguably the most famous and iconic city in Colombia, Cartagena has been attracting couples looking for a romantic Colombian vacation for decades, and with good reason. The Old Walled City is one of the world’s most romantic cities and spending a holiday here with your partner is a once-in-a-lifetime experience. Strolling the beautiful streets of the Walled City, before sipping cocktails at sunset in Cafe del Mar, is the quintessential romantic experience in Colombia.

Hacienda Venecia, Manizales

The entirety of the Colombian Coffee Region is extremely beautiful and romantic, but the jewel in the crown is the wonderful Hacienda Venecia Main House & Coffee Lodge, a luxurious hotel located in a traditional coffee house. With wonderfully furnished rooms replete with well-observed period detail, a delightful terrace with hammocks and large sofas, and a lovely little swimming pool, it’s an ideal spot in which to spend a romantic getaway in the Coffee Region.

The Tayrona National Park Ecohabs

Tayrona National Park might not be too romantic in the minds of many travelers (sweaty hiking, sleeping in sandy tents, queuing up for dinner, no bubble baths), but there is one spot within the park that is the height of luxury and romance: the Ecohab. These individual, thatched cabin huts perched on a hillside overlooking the Caribbean—and boasting a private beach, massage hut, and restaurant and bar—are one of the top romantic destinations in Colombia.
