The colorful seaport town of Valparaiso is one of the world’s true bohemian paradises. With jaw-dropping street art on seemingly every street, regular cultural events and buzzing nightlife, Valpo is an absolute must for any urban traveler. Unsurprisingly, there are also plenty of chic boutique hotels around to lay your weary head after a long day checking out the sights. Here are the top 10 in the city.

MM450 Hotel Boutique

A tiny little boutique which has been converted from an upmarket former residence, MM450 is funky, stylish and chic. Its nine airy and individually decorated rooms have heavy wooden features and large windows, while the coffee shop, deli and rooftop terrace provide plenty of socializing space.

Zero Hotel

A late 19th century mansion converted into a stylish boutique, Zero Hotel is one of the top boutiques in the city thanks to its homely rooms and laid back common areas, with a tasteful mix of modern style and old-world charm. Situated in the heart of the hilly old town, Valpairo’s cobblestone alleys, colorful murales and world famous cable car are just minutes away.

Casa Higueras

Considerably more luxurious than other boutiques in the city, Casa Higueras is especially popular for its chic Mediterranean style balcony with an elegant infinity pool that affords sweeping views over the sea and city. This 1920s converted mansion enjoys an excellent central location and top rate amenities such as key-less entry, top quality linen and a generous serving of scrumptious Belgian chocolates for each guest.

Casa Galos Hotel & Lofts

The best bet for those looking for a little extra space, this modern boutique right in the city center offers six self-contained apartments and lofts which are ideal for families or groups. Each chic, individually decorated apartment contains all the necessary mod-cons including a fully equipped kitchen, flat screen TVs, WiFi and iPhone docking stations. Standard rooms are also available for solo travelers and couples.

Cirilo Armstrong Hotel Boutique

Valaparaiso’s other great boutique apartments, Cirilo Armstrong was designed in a modern style of architecture with chic furnishings which are consistent throughout the building. Each apartment is stylish and spacious, the best of which feature a private fireplace, balcony and sitting areas. A terrace bar with ocean views is ideal for sunset drinks while a wooden spa and massage service in its leafy green garden is the perfect way to unwind.

Hotel Manoir Atkinson

One of the first boutiques to pop up in the area, Manoir Atkinson is run by a Canadian and Chilean couple who clearly have a preference for old-world charm over modern minimalism. This elegant late 19th century boutique is adorned with antique furniture, artworks, stain glass windows and even a piano in the lobby. Its open-air terrace is a great spot to enjoy some food and wine while overlooking the city’s nearby attractions.

Hotel Boutique Acontraluz

Another great central option, this 13 room boutique has a distinct 19th century feel with high ceilings and classy wooden floors and fittings. There is no shortage of places to chill out including a library, sitting room, lush outdoor garden and the terrace bar which offers a great selection of wines from their private cellar.

Fauna Hotel

True to its name, Fauna incorporates organic materials such as native woods to form a natural effect with stunning success. The three-story 1840s mansion retains much of its original adobe walls which creates a nice earthy vibe throughout the complex. Upstairs, a restaurant adjoining a long balcony with bay views serves up some of the best food in town.

Hotel Palacio Astoreca

Probably the classiest (and priciest) boutique on our list, Palacio Astoreca is chock-full of antique furnishings that ooze old-world charm. This restored 1920s mansion has 23 beautifully restored rooms, the best of which come complete with private bathtubs that overlook the bay. It’s got a stunning indoor swimming pool and stylish underground wine cellar and tasting room, but the highlight for many is the attached fine dining restaurant Alegrae, widely considered to be the best in the city.

Verso Hotel

The only boutique on the list not to be located in the Alegre or Concepcion hills, Verso makes up for being a little further out by offering a host of luxurious amenities at a significantly better price. This stylish boutique is built in a modern block architectural design and boasts premium bedding in each room, an onsite wellness center, a fine dining restaurant and a decedent outdoor wooden jacuzzi with views over the bay.

Hotel Boutique Casa Vander

This restored three-story mansion has a private balcony in every room with views of the city or surrounding hills. Much of the original antique decor has been kept although some rooms feature a touch of modernity as well. Amenities include a private cinema and a wine cellar with tasting room, among others.
