September 2017 saw the 24th World Travel Awards, in which Chile bagged the award for South America’s Leading Adventure Tourism Destination 2017, for the third consecutive year. Chile are also hoping to win the World’s Leading Adventure Tourism Destination 2017 again, at a further awards ceremony to be held in Vietnam in December.
Unsurprisingly awarded, this lengthy South American country has virtually everything an adventurer would look for. From towering mountains to commandeer, isolated islands to explore, leafy forests to get lost in, never-ending barren desert to journey through, the best ski slopes in South America and plenty of incredible landscapes including the driest desert in the world, it’s an adventurer’s paradise.
Chile boasts 36 national parks, which cover a grand total area of a whopping 9,141,200 hectares. There are now plans to link 17 of the national parks in the south, creating a new Ruta de los Parques (‘Route of parks’), destined to become one of the most iconic travel routes in the world.
