Summer is truly coming to Rio de Janeiro with plenty of hot, sunny days and more just around the corner. October is set up to be a buzzing month with plenty of festivals, art exhibitions, exciting live music and all night parties. We give you some of the events going on in Rio in October that we think are definitely worth going to.


ART | See Amazing Art At The Art Rio 2016: Feira Internacional de Arte do Rio de Janeiro

📅 Thursday, September 29th – Sunday October 2nd

The annual International Art Fair reunites foreign and Brazilian art through several exhibitions over the course of a four-day weekend. One of the most important art events in Latin America, it gives a chance to see some work by some of the most established artists in the world, as well as ponder over up and coming new talent.

ART EXHIBITION | See Masterpieces Of Art At O Triunfo da Cor

📅 Wednesday, July 20th – Monday, October 17th

The Banco do Brasil Culture Center has an ongoing art exhibition, O Triunfo da Cor, that gathers together a wonderful collection of post-impressionism masterpieces from the Musee d’Orsay and Musee de l’Orangerie, including renowned artists such as Van Gogh, Gauguin and Seurat. Entrance is free.

PARTY | Enjoy Some Music At Santa Reggae Music

📅 Saturday, October 1st

Santa Reggae Music brings a day of reggae music to hippy neighborhood, Santa Teresa. It’s an open air party with a chilled vibe, cold beers, caipirinhas and live music.

MUSIC | Watch The Band Wilco Live

📅 Thursday, October 6th

American alternative rock band, Wilco, are back in Brazil for the first time since 2005. Performing at Circo Voador, a top venue for local and international bands, the band will perform a repertoire of the music from their tenth album, ‘schmilo’ as well as some of their best and most successful songs.

FESTIVAL | Check Out Films At Rio de Janeiro International Film Festival

📅 Thursday, October 6th – Sunday, October 16th

Held every year, the Rio de Janeiro Film Festival brings national and international films to all of Rio de Janeiro. Various cinemas, cultural spaces, theaters and museums open their doors to the public to give visitors the opportunity to see indie Brazilian and foreign films, allowing the chance to learn about new producers, directors and discover new film loves.

DRINK | Try Some Beers At Oktobeerfest Niterio

📅 Friday, October 7th – Sunday October 9th

The Oktobeerfest Niterio brings together various imported and national beers over the course of the three-day weekend, similar to the world famous German version. To get there, simply take the ferry from the city center of Rio to the other side of the channel to Niterio which takes about 30 minutes.

ART | Check Out Local Art At Arte de Portas Abertas

📅 Saturday, 8th – Sunday, October 9th

The doors of Rio’s most bohemian neighborhood open up over this weekend and invite the public into Santa Teresa‘s homes and art spaces to check out artists’ work and exhibitions with the annual Arte de Portas Abertas. It gives a chance to see the arty side of Santa Teresa in all its glory and buy pieces of unique and beautiful art, from paintings and sculptures to clothes and handicrafts. The event is free.

PARTY | Have Some Caipirinhas At Se Revela Santinha

📅 Saturday, October 8th

Se Revela Santinha is a funk music party held at Alto Vidigal, promising beautiful views of the south zone of Rio and pumping funk music all night from live DJs. Until 1am, lime caipirinhas are double shots for the price of one.

SPORT | Enjoy A Run At A Corrida Venus

📅 Sunday, October 9th

A corrida Venus is a run of either five, 10 or 15 kilometers just for women. It’s an early start on a Sunday morning but promises a friendly and supportive atmosphere between female runners and a good way to get a bit of exercise next to Rio’s beautiful beaches.

MUSIC | Sing Along To O Rappa

📅 Tuesday, 11th – Wednesday, October 12th

O Rappa is a Brazilian reggae-rock band, popular in their home country. Their show is highly anticipated so expect big crowds at the Metropolitan in Barra da Tijuca.



FOOD AND DRINK | Taste Beer From Around The World At Mondial de La Biere

📅 Wednesday, 12th – Sunday, October 16th

The Mondial de La Biere beer festival is back and is a great chance to try several types of beer with good food, live music and all within a safe and fun environment. There are several activities on such as ‘Petit Pub’ where visitors explore different cultures through beer tasting and there is the ‘Beer Boutique’, a shop that sells special beers, accessories and souvenirs.

FESTIVAL | Rave At Ultra Fest

📅 Friday, 14th – Saturday, October 15th

The huge Ultra Fest dance festival makes its way to one of the highest points in Rio at the top of Quinta da Boa Vista Park, bringing a weekend of dance music and top DJs. Martin Garrix and Carl Cox are already confirmed in the line up in what promises to be an unforgettable weekend.

PARTY | Dance At Morro Por Amor

📅 Saturday, October 15th

Morro Por Amor is a party at the immensely popular Alto Vidigal, a bar at the top of favela Vidigal. Whilst favelas in the past and present receive bad press, Vidigal is safe and has been open to tourists for a long time. The top offers superb views across Leblon and Ipanema and will have some of the best local DJs playing a wide range of music such as hip hop, deep, house, funk, MPB, sertanejo and rap over two floors.

FESTIVAL | Have Fun At Bubble Fest

📅 Sunday, October 16th

This lively Bubble Fest festival combines a whole bunch of different activities such as bubble soccer, paintball and volley with a giant inflatable ball. Tickets have the activities factored in so you don’t need to pay anything there. Just bring plenty of energy and get ready for a day of fun!

THEATRE | Watch The Choir and Symphony Orchestra

📅 Friday, 21st – Saturday, October 29th

This extraordinary Symphony Orchestra and Choir will perform at the magnificent Teatro Municipal in the center of Rio, giving visitors a chance to hear chilling music and take a peek inside this grand building.

PARTY | Party On A Boat At The Mad House Boat Party

📅 Saturday, October 22nd

The Mad House Boat Party is, as the name suggests, a party on a boat that leaves from Marina da Gloria and stays out at sea for the afternoon and evening. Live music with house, techno and deep bass create a party atmosphere which is further fuelled by the open bar on board.

MUSIC | Enjoy The Kooks Live

📅 Thursday, October 27th

British indie-rock band The Kooks are back in Brazil to perform at the Metropolitan in Barra. They were in Brazil last year at the Lollapalooze Brazil festival and this time are back for a highly-anticipated show.

FOOD AND DRINK | Eat, Drink And Be Merry At The Bier Music Festival

📅 Friday, 28th – Sunday, October 30th

A mix of national and imported beers brings a lively and dynamic environment to the popular Bier Music Festival. There are more than 30 different food trucks and food bikes with gastronomical goodies such as home-made burgers, Mexican food and crepes, as well as live music. It’s a family-friendly event and totally free to enter.

PARTY | Dance All Night At The Palaphita Halloween Party

📅 Saturday, October 29th
The Palahphita Halloween Party has a full open bar with cocktails, caipirinhas and beers available. Dress code is black to fit in with the Halloween theme, and there are a number of local DJs playing to bring great music to the venue and for you to get your groove on to.

MUSIC | Watch Gilberto Gil and Caetano Veloso Perform Live

📅 Sunday, October 30th

The two biggest names in Brazilian music, Gilberto Gil and Caetano Veloso were two of the main forces behind the development of bossa nova and tropicalia. To celebrate 50 years of their music career, the pair will perform several shows across Brazil before going onto 14 other countries. They will perform at the Barra Casa de Shows Metropolitan and will play some of their most successful and best songs from over the years.


MUSIC | Rock Out To Sabaton

📅 Sunday, October 30th

Sabaton, a Swedish metal band, is set to shake up Circo Voador with its heavy metal tunes and lyrics based on historical wars. ‘Smoking Snakes’ is a song about soliders in the World War and brings plenty of heavy bass lines for anyone wanting to rock out to some metal beats.
