Goiânia, the capital city of Goiás state in Brazil, has a population of more than 1.5m. Yet before 1933, it didn’t exist. Today, the agricultural market hub is a handy stop en route to or from Brasilia and home to art deco buildings and pretty parks. Thanks to the city’s regional importance, you’ll find plenty of excellent hotels in Goiânia, too. Here’s our pick – bookable on Culture Trip.
