Instagram is everybody’s favourite app, and it’s a great way to do some visual homework about a destination before you go there. We round up the best accounts on Instagram to get your head round Argentine culture, celebrity and nature ahead of your trip to South America.

Lionel Messi @leomessi

Football prodigy and local hero Leo Messi should surely be top of the Argentine Instagram list. His account seems to give a fairly accurate portrayal of his life; from photos of Messi kicking balls on the pitch to reading bedtime stories to his son, Leo seems like an all round regular guy – except for his golden boot of course. Typical Argentine activities that Leo engages in are cooking asados, hanging out with his family at Christmas and hanging out with his hot girlfriend by the pool. You’ll also be treated to a glimpse of his very terrible tattoos. Enjoy!

Francis Mallmann @francismallmann

Anyone who watched the first season of Chef’s Table will no doubt be familiar with local culinary giant Francis Mallmann. Mallmann’s exuberant personality really came through on the Netflix show, and his Instagram is no less beguiling. Full of shots of idyllic getaways in Patagonia or Uruguay, Mallmann’s account also delivers food photography that will have you salivating at the mouth. Basically, you end up just kind of wanting his life.

Vicky Martinez @m.vicky.m

Buenos Aires photographer Vicky Martinez has the happy knack of being able to capture the spirit of the Argentine capital through her thoughtful lens. From quirky architecture to snapshots of local life, Martinez’s account will make you fall in love with Buenos Aires at first sight. Each photo is tinged with nostalgia, from the sepia tones to the simple yet enchanting composition.

Marcelo Tinelli @marcelotinelli

Flaunting Argentina’s celebrity side is Marcelo Tinelli, TV personality and all round greaseball. Tinelli looks great for his 57 years, as evidenced by his many selfies, which, on closer inspection, reveal countless plastic surgeries. Tinelli often graces the pages of Hola! magazine, a celebrity rag in which he is often featured with his partner, fellow Argentine celeb Guillermina Valdes.

Cristina Kirchner @cristinafkirchner

Former president Cristina Kirchner has no intention of disappearing, ever since her reign as the country’s head ended two years ago. Self-described on her account as a “militant Peronist”, Kirchner is still a hugely popular figure with many in Argentina, and her Instagram stands as a testament to that. Pictured delivering speeches to adoring crowds, taking selfies with children and embracing the elderly, Kirchner’s Insta is a lesson in social media politics.

Since you are here, we would like to share our vision for the future of travel - and the direction Culture Trip is moving in.

Culture Trip launched in 2011 with a simple yet passionate mission: to inspire people to go beyond their boundaries and experience what makes a place, its people and its culture special and meaningful — and this is still in our DNA today. We are proud that, for more than a decade, millions like you have trusted our award-winning recommendations by people who deeply understand what makes certain places and communities so special.

Increasingly we believe the world needs more meaningful, real-life connections between curious travellers keen to explore the world in a more responsible way. That is why we have intensively curated a collection of premium small-group trips as an invitation to meet and connect with new, like-minded people for once-in-a-lifetime experiences in three categories: Culture Trips, Rail Trips and Private Trips. Our Trips are suitable for both solo travelers, couples and friends who want to explore the world together.

Culture Trips are deeply immersive 5 to 16 days itineraries, that combine authentic local experiences, exciting activities and 4-5* accommodation to look forward to at the end of each day. Our Rail Trips are our most planet-friendly itineraries that invite you to take the scenic route, relax whilst getting under the skin of a destination. Our Private Trips are fully tailored itineraries, curated by our Travel Experts specifically for you, your friends or your family.

We know that many of you worry about the environmental impact of travel and are looking for ways of expanding horizons in ways that do minimal harm - and may even bring benefits. We are committed to go as far as possible in curating our trips with care for the planet. That is why all of our trips are flightless in destination, fully carbon offset - and we have ambitious plans to be net zero in the very near future.
