New Zealand’s biggest city, Auckland, is home to many of the country’s best restaurants, and it certainly isn’t lacking when it comes to catering for those who don’t eat meat. Take a look at our guide and, even if you’re a massive advocate of steak, why not try something a little different? You’ll no doubt be surprised and delighted.

1. Sunflower Thai Vegetarian Restaurant

Sunflower Vegetarian Restaurant brings the complex and incredible flavors of Thailand to the center of busy Auckland. This intimate little restaurant serves a range of dishes inspired by Thai cuisine, including noodle, soup and rice dishes that are free from meat and use the country’s typical Southeast Asian flavours. To round off the authentic Thai experience, this restaurant also offers fresh juices to match your vegetarian dishes, as well as a selection of traditional Thai teas.

2. Hectors Restaurant

Located in the Auckland Heritage Hotel in central Auckland is Hectors Restaurant, an eatery that caters to all dietary requirements, with special attention paid to vegan and vegetarian customers. The spacious and well-illuminated venue has tropical-themed decor, including indoor palm trees and a colourful, eclectic carpet. Hectors Restaurant takes the initiative to promote healthy and sustainable eating, using produce that is sourced from within a 50-kilometer radius of the restaurant. This drastically reduces their emissions and helps support local farmers and suppliers.

3. Revive Café

It’s been 14 years since Revive opened its doors and, since then, it has grown and flourished – so much so, that they now have three cafés around Auckland, a selection of cookbooks on healthy eating, and a wholesale healthy-food shop. The man behind it all is Jeremy Dixon, and his company really does have your best interests at heart. Just try a selection of their raw food, or whip up one of their healthy vegan recipes, and you’ll soon realise that eating raw, organic foods doesn’t have to be a chore. Revive do excellent coffee, too, so pop down for an amazing breakfast and see how good it makes you feel.

5. Rasoi Vegetarian Restaurant

In downtown Auckland, on the renowned K Road, you can get your veggie fix from Rasoi Vegetarian Restaurant. This restaurant serves a range of vegetarian options, all based around Indian cuisine. The great thing about Indian cuisine is that it thoroughly debunks the myth that vegetarian food is bland and tasteless. Thanks to the incredible combination of Indian spices and flavours, Rasoi Vegetarian Restaurant has developed a selection of dishes that are sure to excite the tastebuds, whether you’re eating in or taking it away.

Open from breakfast right through to dinner, Revel is an environmentally conscious café that specialises in organic and sustainable produce, as well as vegan and vegetarian dishes. Located on K Road, Revel aims to make nothing but great food, along with superbly crafted coffee, and for it all to be fair trade, healthy and organic.
