Why Margaret River?
Margaret River is one of the world’s most beautiful locations, combining forest landscapes alongside the coast and bringing you to the lush countryside of Western Australia. The drive through the countryside alone will have you exploring vineyards, sinking your toes in the white-sand beaches, wandering through the woods and smelling all the wildflowers before watching the sunset beyond the Indian Ocean.
Not only is the scenery here like that of a fairy tale, but the Gourmet Escape allows visitors to explore the area’s local produce – from chocolate and cheese to wine and seafood. The atmosphere is unlike any other in the world, offering a wide array of opportunities all in one place.
Star Line-Up At The Gourmet Village
The vineyard of the renowned Leeuwin Estate Winery will come to life as the unmissable Gourmet Village returns with the Gourmet Escape once again. Some of the world’s best food and wine experts and chefs take to the stages with their masterclasses, cooking demonstrations, wine tastings, and Q&A sessions.
Over 40 culinary masters from across the world, alongside the locals, will grace the stages and combine their talent to offer you the very best experience. British television personality, journalist and best-selling cookbook author Nigella Lawson will be headlining the Escape, allowing you to discover her kitchen secrets and cooking inspirations. Also sharing their knowledge and passion are Joan Roca (Spain), Jack Stein (United Kingdom), Mauro Colagreco (France), Janice Wong (Singapore), Guy Grossi (Melbourne), Dan Masters (Perth) and Aaron Carr (Margaret River).
Native Bush Foods To Beach BBQs
There are many other exclusive events that will take place on the white sands of Castle Bay Beach, a secret garden in Margaret River, as well as the Augusta Marina and many other intimate venues. Each venue will host feasts, themed lunches and dinners, meet-and-greets and masterclasses and demonstrations.
Discover Margaret River’s native foods with Wadandi man Josh ‘Koomal’ Whiteland in a forage through the bush for coastal bush food. This event will allow you to learn about the region’s Indigenous history, culture and lore relating to the Wadandi and Bibbulmun people, learning about how each ingredient is used traditionally, as well as how global chefs have mastered the use of these foods and have incorporated them into their dishes.
If you would rather relax and unwind in a magical garden oasis, then the Margaret River Secret Garden is the place to be. Whether you go for lunch and take in the beauty of the surroundings, or dine by candlelight in a more intimate setting, both will provide a memorable dining experience. Not only will there be wines from the acclaimed Wilyabrup wineries, but also live jazz performances.
Sink your toes into the soft sands of Castle Bay Beach as the beach transforms into the popular Audi Gourmet Beach BBQ. This waterfront dining space will provide giant tepees with sofas to relax in, live music to dance away to, and barbecue feasts suitable for both lunch and dinner. Accompanying this are cocktails, and many food stations to choose from, turning the venue into the perfect beach party with remarkable views. Living the Western Australian laid-back, coastal lifestyle doesn’t get any better than this.
Alternatively, head to Port of Augusta to join Western Australia’s Food Ambassador Don Hancey on a seafood discovery. You’ll settle among the fishing boats in Augusta Marina, feasting on the catch of the day, snacking on delicacies including whiting and prawns from Shark Bay.
