NGV Presents David Hockney

Picture of Culture Trip Melbourne
Updated: 12 June 2016
After a record-breaking 300,000 visitors passed through the National Gallery of Victoria to see the Andy Warhol | Ai Weiwei exhibition, Tony Ellwood, director of NGV, knew he needed to follow up with another blockbuster for the 2016/2017 Spring and Summer program, and he has done just that. Premiering in November, NGV will present the vibrant work of one of Britain’s most influential contemporary artists, David Hockney. In collaboration with Hockney and his studio, NGV will showcase over 700 works from the last decade, many of which have never been seen before in Australia, and others which Hockney will be producing specifically for the exhibition. Highlights include the gallery dedicated to 600 of his new media works as well as a 35-metre gallery displaying more than 80 recently painted acrylic portraits, including those of John Baldessari and Barry Humphries. Another highlight is his video depiction of seasonal landscape changes in The Four Seasons, Woldgate Woods, which will be presented over nine high-definition screens. Throughout the exhibition, there will be In Conversation and keynote events. Don’t miss your chance to see this much-anticipated exhibition which is expected to break previous attendance records.
