Jasper Jones Arrives at the Melbourne Theatre Company

Picture of Culture Trip
Updated: 28 July 2016
Craig Silvey’s critically acclaimed small-town novel Jasper Jones has been capturing the attention of readers since its release in 2009, and this August, the stage adaptation will arrive at the Melbourne Theatre Company. The coming-of-age story set in the fictional Western Australian town of Corrigan, tells of how a young Aboriginal boy appears at 13-year-old Charlie Bucktin’s window begging to be followed so that he can show Charlie something that will change his life. Adapted by Kate Mulvany and directed by Sam Strong (Private Lives, The Weir), the story has been called the ‘Australian To Kill a Mockingbird’ by The Monthly and ‘Our next Cloudstreet,’ by The West Australian. The production will star Nicholas Denton as Charlie Bucktin and Guy Simon as Jasper Jones and will run until September 9, 2016.
