Deception and Revelation: Shakespeare At The National Gallery of Victoria

This year marks the 400th anniversary of the death of William Shakespeare, and as a part of the After Shakespeare exhibition at the Noel Shaw Gallery, Baillieu Library, Dr Vivien Gasdton, and Dr Ted Gott will present a lecture titled Deception and Revelation: Shakespeare at the National Gallery of Victoria. The pair will discuss the playwright’s legacy and significance as well as how he continues to be received and interpreted in Australia. After Shakespeare will present early folios of the writers work, 19th-century playbills, costume sketches and unpublished works on loan from the State Library of Victoria and the University of Melbourne Archives. This free lecture will take place in the Leigh Scott Room in the Baillieu Library and will offer thespians, writers and history buffs a rare insight into Shakespeariana from Melbourne and Australia.
