Celebrate Four Days Of Amusement At The 62nd Moomba Festival

Picture of Culture Trip
Updated: 21 April 2016
Over Labour Day weekend, the Moomba Festival will celebrate the diverse traditions of Melbourne throughout Birrarung Marr and Alexandra Gardens. Now in its 62nd year, Moomba crowned Victorian sweetheart and Melbourne Cup winner Michelle Payne and her brother Steven Payne as this festival’s 2016 monarchs. Throughout five precincts, you’ll find family-friendly fun including high-octane water sports, a skate park, live music featuring British India and Alpine, cultural workshops, kids’ activities, and an abundance of food choices to snack on. On Sunday, the Birdman Rally takes flight as flocks of hawks and penguins will hilariously attempt to soar across the Yarra for a good cause, and once the sun has set, nightly fireworks will illuminate the sky from 9:30pm onwards. Come Monday, Melbournians young and old are invited to watch the legendary Moomba Parade as it floats along St Kilda Road from 10:30am on!
