Melbourne is flipping mad about burgers, and with so many restaurants and cafés to choose from, The Culture Trip enlisted a patty expert to help sort the good from the great. The Moorabbin man behind Burgers of Melbourne has devoured his way through hundreds of burgers and has kindly shared his best buns with The Culture Trip. From the juiciest cheeseburgers to mouth-watering mac n’ cheese and the boldest bacon burgers, this is a tasty roundup of the best that Melbourne has to offer.
Modelled after an American trailer park, Grand Trailer Park is an East Coast-inspired bar and diner on Bourke Street created by Joshua Lefers, with a menu courtesy of Dani Zeini from The Dandenong Pavilion. Sit at a picnic table, in a beach box or a caravan, complete with Hawaiian wallpaper, before ordering off the gluttonous American menu. The Atomic Burger with a beef patty, melting American cheddar, caramelised onion, Chili Cheese Kransky, bacon, BBQ sauce and truffle cayenne mayonnaise served on a toasted brioche bun is highly recommended.
Not for the faint-hearted, the Kick Ass Mac n’ Cheese Burger from Three One 2 One will have you licking your lips as the macaroni spills from the burger into a gooey double cheese landslide. Complementing the pasta is the crack of crispy bacon, alongside fresh lettuce and tomato served between two sesame seed buns.

Some burgers come with double cheese, but the Triple C Triple B at Cool Bean Kitchen is loaded with double bacon that droops from the burger, tempting you to prod and pick at it for some finger linger action. Aside from the bacon, this burger includes 180 grams of Wagyu beef, plus pickles, caramelised onions and Peri Peri mayo. By far the best burger joint in Moorabbin, Cool Bean Kitchen will quickly convert you into a regular customer.
