A Tasty Roundup Of Melbourne's Best Burgers

Picture of Monique La Terra
Updated: 14 September 2016
Melbourne is flipping mad about burgers, and with so many restaurants and cafés to choose from, The Culture Trip enlisted a patty expert to help sort the good from the great. The Moorabbin man behind Burgers of Melbourne has devoured his way through hundreds of burgers and has kindly shared his best buns with The Culture Trip. From the juiciest cheeseburgers to mouth-watering mac n’ cheese and the boldest bacon burgers, this is a tasty roundup of the best that Melbourne has to offer.

Demazzi Stone Grill – The Lucky Mac

If you haven’t been to Demazzi Stone Grill in a while, then it’s time to pay the Mt Alexander restaurant a visit as there are some new additions to the menu, including The Lucky Mac. Back in July 2015, the guy behind Burgers of Melbourne customised a specials board burger, and it has since found a permanent place on the menu. The Lucky Mac features two 120-gram Wagyu patties, maple bacon, double cheese, jalapeños, lettuce and Mac sauce, mustard and ketchup.

Grand Trailer Park – The Atomic

Modelled after an American trailer park, Grand Trailer Park is an East Coast-inspired bar and diner on Bourke Street created by Joshua Lefers, with a menu courtesy of Dani Zeini from The Dandenong Pavilion. Sit at a picnic table, in a beach box or a caravan, complete with Hawaiian wallpaper, before ordering off the gluttonous American menu. The Atomic Burger with a beef patty, melting American cheddar, caramelised onion, Chili Cheese Kransky, bacon, BBQ sauce and truffle cayenne mayonnaise served on a toasted brioche bun is highly recommended.

Three One 2 One – Kick Ass Mac n’ Cheese Burger

Not for the faint-hearted, the Kick Ass Mac n’ Cheese Burger from Three One 2 One will have you licking your lips as the macaroni spills from the burger into a gooey double cheese landslide. Complementing the pasta is the crack of crispy bacon, alongside fresh lettuce and tomato served between two sesame seed buns.

Leonard’s House of Love – Double Cheese Burger

Located at the old Tryst Bar in South Yarra, Leonard’s House of Love opened its doors in November 2015, and it has been sending customers through a time warp ever since. Styled after a 70s log cabin in Nevada – see the number plate – Leonard’s will transport you to a simpler time of macramé hanging plants, lava lamps, and wooden TV boxes. Meals are served on TV dinner trays, and if you’re wondering what to get, try the Double Cheese Burger with a medium rare brisket patty, double cheese, onion, pickle, lettuce and special sauce.

Juanita Peaches – Double Cheese Burger

The man behind Beatbox Kitchen, Taco Trunk, and All Day Donuts brings you Juanita Peaches. Known for its fried chicken, Juanita Peaches also makes mouth-watering burgers including the Double Cheese Burger which comes with two beef patties, double cheese, homemade pickles, diced onions and mustard inside homemade buns. All Day Donuts is located within the same space, meaning that dessert is sorted.

Cool Bean Kitchen – Triple C Triple B

Some burgers come with double cheese, but the Triple C Triple B at Cool Bean Kitchen is loaded with double bacon that droops from the burger, tempting you to prod and pick at it for some finger linger action. Aside from the bacon, this burger includes 180 grams of Wagyu beef, plus pickles, caramelised onions and Peri Peri mayo. By far the best burger joint in Moorabbin, Cool Bean Kitchen will quickly convert you into a regular customer.

YOMG – The Creeper

YOMG is the sound you’ll make after realising that Yo My Goodness has opened its fourth location in Glen Waverly and now serve burgers. YOMG is also the sound you’ll make after biting into their patties. The Creeper is one of their best, as its bursts with 100 percent Aussie Angus triple beef, triple cheese and triple bacon, jalapeños, Sriracha mayo and onion-jalapeño jam. YOMG is also open until midnight on Friday and Saturday to cater to your late-night burger cravings.

1090 – The Macros

What began as a food truck parked in Northcote now has a permanent place in Richmond. The Macros sits on the 1090 specials board and features double medium rare patties, double cheese, crispy strips of fried chicken, grilled chorizo, oozing mozzarella, double bacon-wrapped jalapeños, pickles, mayonnaise and ketchup. The best part is that you don’t need to order a side of fries. Instead, you’ll find them poking out alongside the bacon.

Royal Stacks – The King

Located in the CBD and Brunswick, Royal Stacks has a noble selection of burgers, including the Queen Bee and the Prince Harry; however, it’s The King that is the attention grabber. This imperial burger includes a beef patty – minced daily – mac and cheese, American mustard, buttered lettuce, tomato slices and their special burger sauce. If you like your cheese messy, then this is the burger for you. Long live The King.

Their cheeseburger includes beef, cheese, canteen sauce, pickles and onions and can be ordered as a single or double. There are also a number of extras to elevate your burger, including their extra hot sauce and the chicken brick.
