40 Years of Settlement - Vietnamese In Australia

Picture of Culture Trip
Updated: 14 May 2016
After the fall of Saigon in 1975, hundreds of thousands of Vietnamese refugees fled to Australia. 40 Years of Settlement explores their journey, which began 40 years ago, with loss, fear and desperation, transforming into a tale of survival, hope and achievement. Having arrived in Australia on boats with few belongings, the exhibition shows how first-generation Vietnamese migrants rebuilt their lives and created the active and vibrant community we see today. 40 Years of Settlement also explores questions of cultural identity from second-generation Vietnamese Australians and how the experiences of their parents shaped their own understanding of where home is.

📅 Until June 30, 2016

📍 Immigration Museum, 400 Flinders St, Melbourne VIC
