Located 50 miles north of Milwaukee on the west shore of Lake Michigan, Sheboygan is known for its outdoor activities like fishing and sailing and relaxing spas. After a day adventuring on the lake, you’ll want to treat yourself to an excellent hearty meal. Try one of these ten great local restaurants that capture the flavor of Sheboygan.

Field to Fork

Field to Fork has perfected farm-to-table dining with their café and grocery store. In the café, each dish is made with seasonal produce and local ingredients from local producers. The menu offers fresh, artisanal bread and pastries, homemade soup, sandwiches, salads, and in-house roasted coffee. For a tasty lunch, try the Big Bowl of Greens, made with mixed greens, red onion, mixed peppers, chickpeas, cucumber, and sunflower seeds tossed with an Asian dressing; or the Field to Fork Chili, locally raised, grass-fed beef and organic red beans; or any of the delicious burgers. The expansive menu is sure to have something for everyone.

Lino Ristorante Italiano

Sample authentic Italian cuisine on the Sheboygan River at Lino Ristorante. In the summer, the restaurant opens its outdoor patios where guests can enjoy the view. The menu offers dishes from the Amalfi Coast of Italy reinvented by Chef Lino Autiero, who combines his childhood favorites from Italy with recipes he’s learned to cook all around the world. Try some of the fresh pasta dishes, the fish or meat entrées, and the homemade desserts.

Il Ritrovo

Il Ritrovo serves Verace-Pizza-Napoletana-certified, wood-fired pizzas, which means every pizza is made to the strict requirements of a truly authentic Neapolitan pizza. In the true southern Italian way, Il Ritorovo uses fresh, seasonal ingredients, an authentic Neapolitan stone oven, San Marzano tomatoes, fresh buffalo or cow milk mozzarella, and fresh basil. ‘Il Ritrovo’ means ‘A Place to Meet,’ so this restaurant is the perfect place to meet friends or family for a fantastic lunch or dinner.

Majerle’s Black River Grill

Majerle’s is a small, home style restaurant located within the evergreens near the water. This spot is popular with the locals, and it’s quite small, so be prepared to wait. They serve fine American classics along with local favorites. The menu offers sandwiches and wraps for a light lunch or larger entrées of seafood or meat for dinner. Try the liver and onions, prepared grilled and topped with bacon, or the eight-ounce ribeye and coconut shrimp garnished with onion rings. Seafood options include lake perch, scallops, and much more. For dessert, try one of the homemade tortes or cheesecakes.

Harry’s Diner

Harry’s is a classic American diner located in a shiny metal building, complete with retro 1950’s décor, including checkered tablecloths, a life-size Elvis statue and poodle skirts on the waitstaff. Enjoy breakfast or lunch at the city’s favorite greasy spoon when you dine at Harry’s. Try an order of country fresh eggs, breakfast sandwiches, French toast, or burgers, and don’t leave without a classic malt shake.

Harry’s Prohibition Bistro

Once famous for being a ‘moonshine stasher’ during the prohibition days, Harry’s is another VPN-certified Neapolitan pizzeria and wine bar on the Sheboygan riverfront. The 1920s style pizzeria serves wood-fired pizzas cooked in an authentic Neapolitan oven. Weather permitting, sit outside on the enclosed, heated patio with a view of the Sheboygan River. Aside from excellent pizzas, the restaurant serves a variety of authentic dishes including saltimbocca, made with penne pasta, garlic, onion, and prosciutto sautéed in a white wine, cream, and sage sauce.

Trattoria Stefano

Owners Stefano and Whitney Viglietti opened their regional Italian trattoria in 1994, and they also own and operate three other restaurants in Sheboygan. Stefano is a self-trained chef and based his menu for Trattoria Stefano on the recipes he found during his travels throughout Italy. Along with daily specials, the menu offers fresh, house-made pasta, salads, fish, and meat dishes. Products are sourced from local farmers whenever possible, and the bread and desserts are baked on-site every day.

Black Pig

Black Pig promises to push ‘comfort food out of its comfort zone’, with a gourmet menu that transforms classic dishes. The restaurant offers lunch, dinner, and Sunday brunch. For lunch, try a sandwich like the ‘This Ain’t Your Momma’s Meatloaf,’ which comes with homemade meatloaf, bacon, Chalet Swiss cheese, arugula, jalapeño, and sun-dried cherry ketchup, with a small plate of white truffle and black pepper bacon fries topped with Sartori parmesan. At dinnertime, the menu offers fish, pasta, meat dishes, burgers, and more. The full bar serves wines, craft beers, and house-made cocktails in the restaurant’s relaxed dining area.
