1. Fairmont Washington DC, Georgetown

An international collection of flags flutter above the Fairmont entrance, your first indication that this luxury hotel in Georgetown has world appeal. No better is that seen than in the lobby lounge, a marbled relaxation space with a cocktail bar – order the BeeTini, made with honey from the bees that live on the roof. The 413 rooms and suites are predictably stylish, all clean lined and with contemporary decor. The theme continues down in the Juniper Restaurant, which plates modern, American dishes.

2. The Georgetown House

Built as a storage facility in the 1830s, over the years the Georgetown House has been a tavern and a stable for horses and mules. Now, it’s a charming boutique hotel in Georgetown – although its history is still seen in its quaint rooms, wooden flooring, and the balcony peering over the canal. The rooms are understated, but are all ensuite and have air conditioning. Days are best spent here wandering by the canal, dipping into the numerous nearby restaurants.

Once a 20th-century industrial factory, the building was converted into a luxury, modern Georgetown hotel – but it’s brick smokestack remains. The feature makes it the most historic and distinctive hotel in the Georgetown skyline. The hotel’s interior features earthy tones and plenty of burgundy, creating a warm aroma that blends well with the brick exterior. Named after Alexander Graham Bell, who moved to Georgetown in 1879, the Graham strives for innovative style that channels the spirit of invention and man’s curiosity – with a luxurious twist. One of the top places to stay in Georgetown, the hotel’s best feature is its grandiose rooftop bar, dubbed the Observatory. 7. Georgetown Inn

Operating for over 50 years, the Georgetown Inn boasts plenty of history and nostalgic glamour. It was the first new hotel built in Georgetown after a century of decay, arriving during the neighborhood’s revitalization. The luxury European-style digs are classic, timeless, and strikingly presidential. With 96 rooms, it’s the largest hotel in the area – don’t miss the on-site 1310 Kitchen and Bar.
