For good espresso and an engaging atmosphere, spend some time at the locally owned Houndstooth Coffee. Both Austin locations feature sleek, bright interiors with wood finishings, concrete floors, and plenty of seating. At the downtown location, a whole wall to the right of the coffee bar is mostly made up of windows, flooding the space with light and illuminating the bright red backsplash behind the counter. Sip one of their iced brews or hot espressos while you mull over a book in their light-filled modern space.

You can’t beat the smell of Fair Bean Coffee’s roasted coffee beans taking over their space or the natural light and calming outside views provided by the long rectangular windows that take up the front wall. There’s nothing loud about this coffee shop. It’s enduring in its simplicity of light wood walls, barrels, and stools. Be sure to visit and try their dark roast coffee to start.

Inside the South Congress Hotel is the loveliest coffee shop you ever did see. The interior of Manana Coffee and Juice screams chic and modern with an almost Mediterranean feel to it. You’ll love the high ceilings, natural light, beautiful tiles, and perfectly displayed pastries. Try the coconut zucchini bread or vanilla honey fried danish. You can consider this a hidden gem in Austin, perfect for documenting your next coffee date.

Both a bike shop and coffee shop, Mellow Johnny’s is likely the most uniquely designed café in Austin. The large warehouse-like space is filled with bright sunlight, and the coffee bar sits in the front. Surrounding the coffee bar are bikes, bike gear, clothing, and much more, so grab a coffee and some bike equipment, and then head down the city streets on two wheels.

You’ll find clean, modern lines at the long-standing Austin company, Patika. The space features a mid-century vibe, complete with exposed brick, white walls, and light concrete floors. However, it’s not only their engaging design that sets them apart but also their food items such as their sausage apple cheddar biscuit and orange fig scone. Stop by on Jazz Wednesdays for small bites, wine, and craft beer in an intimate space.

Forthright Cafe is such an easy spot to fall for, with its perfect lighting, amazing pastries, brunch on Sundays, and good coffee. The simple space boasts wood floors, bright white walls, and a long extended counter to sit at as you enjoy one of their cinnamon rolls with a side of homemade cashew milk. They use a lot of organic ingredients and offer a variety of gluten-free options, creating a place that is as delicious as it is elegant.

Cenote is tucked inside a charming building; once a home built in the late 1880s, renovations turned it into a modern-day coffee shop while still preserving the historical significance. The space is vibrantly colored, from the trees painted on the blue walls to the bright red chairs sitting on the wood floor. This cozy vintage space also offers a fabulous Sunday brunch.
