The sunsets that stretch across the Texas sky are some of the most incredible in the world. The mixtures of orange, pink, red, and yellow compose such picturesque scenes that you have no choice but to stop and admire them. For the best chances of seeing a Texas sunset or snapping the perfect photo, be sure to check out the following locations.

Someone’s Backyard

In Texas, you don’t have to travel far to witness a gorgeous sunset. If you live out in the country, you can see these colorful scenes almost every night. So head out towards the countryside for some more photos like the one below, or capture something possibly even more breathtaking.

Gulf Coast (Rockport)

You are guaranteed to witness a stunning sunset anywhere along the Texas coast; however, one specific place to consider visiting is Rockport, TX, a sleepy beach town with a lot of rental properties just off the water. Here, you can easily catch the incredible, changing sky, creating a memorable moment.

Rockwall is located northeast of downtown Dallas and is another great destination to view a sunset against the water. Take in the scenic view from the land, or partake in one of Rockwall’s many boat tours on Lake Ray Hubbard.

El Paso

For a change of scenery, visit the middle of the desert where you will find some of the most magnificent changes in the sky. El Paso is the perfect town to see a desert sunset. You can either drive through the El Paso outskirts or hike to the top of the Franklin Mountains for the best view.

Big Bend National Park

Big Bend National Park features a varied landscape – desert, a mountain range, rivers, and grassland. It’s not only one of the most diverse and beautiful national parks in the country but also one of the best places in Texas to watch a sunset. Any place will do, but you’re best off hiking up the Chisos Mountain Range – the higher, the better – and admiring the view from above.

Somewhere in East Texas

Locals find that the best sunsets are frequently witnessed on road trips while passing through what seems like the middle of nowhere. You can head in any direction, and you’re bound to find those pink tones in the sky as you’re moving down an empty highway. Consider going east, like this photographer did, to capture the perfect combination of colors in the sky.

Northwest of downtown Austin is the lively Lake Travis. To capture the sunset just right, try moonlight boating or dining at The Oasis, a restaurant with views of the whole lake plus front row seats to see the sunset.
