Located in the east of Dallas, the suburban town of Mesquite is home to a mixture of local tastes as well as international flavors inspired by far away places. From Greek to Japanese to Tex-Mex, here are 10 of the top places to eat out.

Athenos

Athenos offers an authentic taste of Greece in Mesquite, Texas. The restaurant serves all of Greece’s traditional foods including tzatziki and hummus dips, Greek salads, pita wraps, moussaka and plates of gyro. They offer some of the city’s most affordable lunch specials, all including seasoned rice, pita bread and tzatziki sauce. One particularly popular dish is the gyro pizza, which is topped with gyro, tomatoes, onions and cheese with tzatziki on the side.

Tucker’s Grill & Taqueria

Some of the the best street tacos in the area can be found at Tucker’s. The restaurant offers a wide variety of grilled dishes with a Mexican twist, including catfish, enchiladas, handmade burgers, gyro, fresh dough pizzas, nachos and burritos. Joe’s

For over 10 years, Joe’s has been Mesquite’s go-to restaurant for homemade pizzas and pasta. They cook pizzas in the traditional brick oven style, available in ready-made slices or custom prepared with your own selected toppings. During lunch hours, the restaurant offers some of the city’s best specials, which all include salad and garlic bread. In addition to pizza and pasta, they serve seafood and chicken dishes, hot and cold sandwiches, and desserts.

Kaze Japanese Restaurant

Kaze is one of the town’s favorite and most affordable Asian restaurants. They serve fresh sushi rolls, Japanese hibachi, and delicious Korean dishes along with house sauces made from scratch. All of the dishes are clearly explained and ordering from the menu is easy, even if oriental cuisines are new to you. Adding to the warm and intimate atmosphere, there’s a beautiful view of a Japanese garden and koi fish pond at the restaurant. Doors are open for both lunch and dinner with welcoming and helpful staff who are all experts when it comes to Japanese culture and cuisine.

Mesquite BBQ

Mesquite BBQ has been family operated since 1959 and has a reputation as the best barbecue in town. The owners Kent and Lisa Crouch have created a friendly and warm atmosphere in their restaurant, which makes it welcoming to tourists as well as a classic favorite among locals. Their beef, ham, turkey, ribs and pulled pork barbecue dishes have all received multiple rewards.

Pepper’s Taco

Pepper’s Taco is a family owned restaurant that serves some of the best Mexican food every day for breakfast, lunch and dinner. Their menu includes traditional tamales, fajitas, quesadillas, burritos, and taco salads, as well as an authentic variety of specialty hot dishes. Everything they serve is prepared freshly on spot and they have a ’bring your own beer’ policy, allowing you to enjoy your own alcoholic drinks in addition to the fountain drinks they sell.

Martinez Restaurant

Martinez is a family restaurant which has been open in Mesquite for 20 years. Serving fresh homemade food, the menu specializes in Tex-Mex, including everything from soups to enchiladas for brunch, lunch and dinner. The great quality and comfortable, friendly atmosphere has made the spot one of the town’s most beloved. After opening the Mesquite restaurant and becoming known on the culinary scene, the Martinez family has expanded and opened two additional locations in Sunnyvale, Texas called Bull’s Pen and Tino’s Restaurant.

Iron Chefs

Creating an intriguing dining experience, Iron Chefs has an open grill in the center of the restaurant, allowing you to watch as the chefs prepare your meals. Their specialty is Angus beef, but they have a large variety of food options including sushi rolls, hibachi dishes, teriyaki bowls and Japanese appetizers. It’s a favorite for high quality quick bites as well as ideal for longer dinners enjoyed with larger groups. If you visit on your birthday, you get a hibachi dinner as well as fried ice cream for free.

The House of Gyros

The House of Gyros specializes in the one and only true Greek gyro, made in the same style you’d find in downtown Athens. The restaurant also has an ‘on the char broiler’ section on their menu, which includes authentic Greek lamb chops, marinated chicken on skewer and exceptional charbroiled burgers. Some of the best appetizers include calamari, stuffed grape leaves and steak fries topped with feta cheese.
