Updated: 9 November 2016
A city with a large population of Mexican ancestry and immigrants, Dallas holds some of the most authentically-inspired Tex-Mex restaurants. Although, it’s hard to choose the best Tex-Mex in Dallas, we’ve found some of the most raved about and delicious restaurants in Dallas proper. Read ahead for our guide.

Avila’s

Avila’s has been ranked high on many publications’ top Tex-Mex lists. After 25 years, it still proves to be a go-to spot for its mix of authentic Mexican and Tex-Mex cuisines and some of the best mole sauce in the city. While here, enjoy their housemade margaritas and the refreshing cataloupe agua fresca with the brisket tacos and tamoles topped with spicy salsa or mouth-watering queso. The small and casual joint also offers an amazing bread pudding for dessert.

Pepe’s & Mito’s Mexican Cafe

Pepe’s & Mito’s is famous for their fresh tortillas, chile rellenos and cheesy, perfectly spiced Tex-Mex dishes in Deep Ellum. Their chipotle wine sauce is a heavenly addition to dishes like the chipotle shrimp, but don’t forget to sample the Norteno tacos that were featured on the Food Network. Weekends are perfect for their Tex-Mex brunches like migas and the huevos rancheros, and at any time, their margaritas make for the perfect buzz.

Desperados Mexican Restaurant

Desperados Mexican Restaurant is another taco favorite in Dallas. The family operated business has been running since 1976 and includes some delicious Tex-Mex staples, but their award-winning margaritas and salsa are favorites for locals. Order items from their house guacamole to the large cheese enchillada. Even the local sports teams use them as caterers.

Mia’s Tex-Mex Restaurant

Mia’s Tex-Mex is a staple of Dallas. Always crowded, Mia’s focuses on family tradition and authentic dishes. Must-trys are the passed-down-from-Mama brisket tacos that make it one of many reasons why it is a local’s favorite. Margaritas come highly recommended; they’re made strong but not too sweet. Also enjoy the perfectly blended sauces, chimichangas and housemade rellenos.
