Another gem in El Paso in the heart of Segundo Barrio is the Bowie Bakery, notorious for being the best traditional bakery in the city. It was first established in 1951 and was re-opened in 1971 by Angel Marquez. Marquez began baking bread when he was 13 years old in his hometown of Sombrerete, Mexico. At the bakery, you are able to choose from many pastries, including choco-flans, tres leches cakes, tarts and El Paso’s favorite bread, pan dulce.
Hidden away on the west side of El Paso, Gufo di Milano allows you to indulge in Italy’s infamous gelato. At Gufo Di Milano, the chief artisan, Sergio Moreno, studied the craft of gelato-making in Airolo, Switzerland.
