Whether you’re lured by the incredible sands or angling opportunities, there are plenty of hotels in Port Aransas, Texas, in which to rest up. Some retain the small fishing town feel, but you’ll also find home-from-home condos and want-for-nothing resorts. Here are the best places to stay in Port Aransas.

1. Camp Coyoacan

Glamp in this urban campground filled with tent cabins and yurts. Lest that sound too rustic, know you’ll settle into a comfy queen-sized bed (a few tents have more than one), enjoy a shower in the morning and air conditioning will keep you cool. Bring your gadgets (there’s a desk and electricity) or relax on your private deck with coffee each morning. This colorful, modern campground has an outdoor pool and a place to rent gear and bikes for exploring. Walkers can hoof it to the Leonabelle Turnbull Birding Center, beaches and the pier.

The Port Royal Ocean Resort is a 25-acre (10ha) condo complex and conference center and perfect for traveleres looking for a beach hotel Port Aransas. There’s fun for the whole family with “dive-in movies,” sandcastle building, yoga and aqua zumba classes. Dining opportunities are not confined to the full-service restaurant at the conference center; grab an ice cream from the cart, get a snack from the food truck or enjoy a colorful cocktail at the poolside Cabana Bar. There are pools and water slides to splash in and a long boardwalk to the beach taking you over the dunes. Spacious suites run from one bedroom to three, making them ideal for group getaways or a family vacation.

3. Island Hotel Port Aransas

The centrally located Island Hotel Port Aransas is just a mile from Port Aransas Beach. Most rooms and suites have kitchenettes and there is also a complimentary breakfast on offer if you’d prefer to be catered for. Enjoy the pool and games room, and then cook up a steak (or seafood catch) at one of the barbecue grills. Check out nearby Port Aransas shopping, dining and recreation options, including beach cart rentals, charter fishing and dolphin-watching tours.

Perfect for the aviation enthusiast, Amelia’s Landing is in part a tribute to flying machines. Each room is decorated with aviation collectables from the owners’ personal stash; you may have seen their Ferrari-red RV-8A airplane named Amelia at an airshow. Make yourself at home at Shadow Palm. Here eight villas come with kitchens, plus there’s a pool in the center of the complex. Only steps from your villa you’ll find the Shadow Palm Grill where you can barbecue (they provide utensils) and gather with family and friends to play beach games. To get around, rent a golf cart, which are allowed on all streets except Highway 361.

7. Pirates' Bay Condos

Relax in a condo with home-like amenities such as a well-equipped kitchen, and patio or deck with Adirondack chairs. These lodgings in Port Aransas are centrally located, so if you can tear yourself away from the pool, the delights of Port Aransas are nearby. Some of the units also include dock rental.

Two-story Blue Turtle Cottage is located only a half-mile from Port Aransas Beach. This three-bedroom home has a fenced yard and screened-in porch where you can relax with a tropical drink in hand. You’ll also have a kitchen for cooking the local seafood. Restaurants and shops are not far away and, for a dip, check out the community pool.
